1976 – Race car driver Niki Lauda was involved in a fiery accident in the German Grand Prix on the 14-mile Nürburgring race course. His helmet came off after a hard impact with a barrier, the car erupted into flames, and another race car collided with him after he came to a stop.

2011 – First Air Flight 6560 crashed near Resolute, Nunavut Canada. 12 of the 15 people on board were killed.
