1944 – Frenchman Emile Jacob, the Portuguese Avelino de Queiros and the Polak Stephane Starawscki, members of the French Forces of the Interior, were killed in combat with a German convoy.

1970 – The Sterling Hall Bombing took place on the University of Wisconsin–Madison by four young people protested against the University’s research connections with the US military during the Vietnam War. It resulted in the death of a university physics researcher and injuries to three others.
