During World War I, Bushy Park was home to the King's Canadian Hospital, and between the wars hosted a camp for undernourished children. During World War II, General Dwight D. Eisenhower planned the D-Day landings from Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) at Camp Griffiss in the Park. A memorial by Carlos Rey to the Allied troops who fell on D-Day marks the spot where General Dwight D. Eisenhower's tent stood.]]>

In World War 2, part of the park became Camp Griffiss, the base for the US 8th Army Air Force, US Strategic Air Forces and later the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces. This was where General Eisenhower planned Operation Overlord, the code name for the allied invasion of north-west Europe that began with the D-D landings. Most of the camp's huts were removed by 1963 but you can still see remains of drain covers and stones poking through the grass. There are formal memorials to the USAAF and SHAEF in the north-east corner of the park.]]>

The wall was dedicated in 2007. On the wall are the names of 505 veterans from the past and the present. The wall is divided into sections of the Armed Forces. Besides the 505 names, there are also 100 being made and the wall has room for 1000. The wall can also be extended to add more.

Dedicated in 1871, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument was dedicated to the Rhode Island citizens who gave their life in service of the Union during the Civil War. Located in Kennedy Plaza (formerly known as Exchange Place), the monument was architected by Alfred Stone with Sculptures by Randolf Rogers.

This is a Civil War Memorial located in Tibbits Park in White Plains, NY. This memorial was placed in 1872, and has weathered fairly well. A large tree has grown directly in front of the memorial, but the memorial itself is still easily found.
The front of the memorial reads:
To the Soldiers of White Plains who died in the Service of their Country in the Civil War 1861-65

Each side of the memorial lists names of the soldiers.

The rear of the memorial reads:

The American Merchant Marine Veterans Memorial, located in San Pedro, California, was commissioned to honor merchant marine veterans from all wars. It consists of a black wall, similar to the Vietnam Memorial, listing the names of merchant seaman lost at sea during time of war, and a bronze statue.

The statue, depicting one merchant seaman helping another climb a Jacob's ladder during a rescue at sea, was designed by Jasper D'Ambrosi of Wilmington, California. On 1 August 1986, very soon after his original design was accepted and before he started the final model, D'Ambrosi died. His two sons, Marc and Michael D'Ambrosi, created the enlargement which was cast at the family foundry, Arizona Bronze, in 1987 as a tribute to their father.

A bronze plaque on the memorial states, "The United States Merchant Marine has faithfully served our country in times of war and peace hauling cargo to every corner of the world. This Memorial is dedicated to those brave men and women of all races, creeds and colors who answered that call to serve."]]>

Facing the Statue of Liberty across New York harbor, the East Coast Memorial is located at the southern end of Battery Park. This memorial honors the 4,601 missing American servicemen who lost their lives in the Atlantic Ocean while engaged in combat during World War II. Designed by the architectural firm of Gehron and Seltzer, the monument consists of a large, paved plaza punctuated by eight massive 19-foot tall gray granite pylons (four each on the southern and northern sides) onto which are inscribed the names, rank, organization and state of each of the deceased.

On the eastern side of the plaza a monumental bronze eagle, sculpted by Albino Manca (1898–1976) and set on a pedestal of polished black granite, grips a laurel wreath over a wave--signifying the act of mourning at the watery grave. The monument was commissioned by the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC), a small independent agency of the executive branch of the United States federal government, and was dedicated by President John F. Kennedy (1917–1963) on May 23, 1963. ]]>

The International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum has officially unveiled the first addition of names on the “Wall of the Fallen” Memorial Wall that was originally dedicated on September 9th, 2006.

At a memorable and emotional ceremony, 94 names were unveiled on bronze nameplates as hundreds of people watched. The Flag Truck also unfurled for the first time the office flag of the U.S. Department of Transportation in a fitting tribute to our fallen towing operators.

This ceremony was the first annual name unveiling and will continue to be held every year in the City of Chattanooga on the 3rd Saturday in September.]]>

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial is a Canadian National Historic Site and, one of Canada's most important overseas war memorials. Dedicated to those Canadians who gave their lives in the First World War, the Vimy Memorial is one of eight Canadian First World War memorials in Europe. It was constructed as the national memorial in tribute of the 66,000 Canadian war dead and 11,285 with no known grave in France. Inscribed on the ramparts of the memorial are the names of the Canadian soldiers who were posted "missing, presumed dead" in France. Inaugurated in 1936, the memorial designed by Walter Seymour Allward took 11 years to construct.

The memorial is located on the former battlefield of the Battle of Vimy Ridge in the preserved Canadian National Vimy Memorial Park, on the territory of the commune of Givenchy-en-Gohelle, near Vimy, France. In 1922, use of the land, for the battlefield park which contains the memorial was granted, in perpetuity, for all time by the French nation to the people of Canada in recognition of Canada's war efforts. The park is still honeycombed with wartime tunnels, craters and trenches, many of which are closed to the public for safety.

In 2004, the memorial was closed for restoration work, including general cleaning and the recarving of names, with the statues moved off-site, cleaned and restored.]]>

The Homomonument is a memorial in the centre of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Bancroft Tower, designed by Earle and Fischer, was erected in Salsbury Park, in the city of Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1900. It was built in memory of George Bancroft. The tower is 56 feet high, constructed of natural stone, and looks like a miniature feudal castle. The cost of Construction was roughly $15,000. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places

This Tower was erected by Stephen Salisbury III in honor of George Bancroft. When Salsbury died, the tower was donated to the Worcester Art Museum, which in turn donated it to the Worcester Parks Department in 1912.]]>
