Scampìa is a modern suburb in the north of Naples. The population is about 80,000. The name of Le Vele has become infamous as the emblem of one of the most degraded and problematic of the city. Degradation is also accompanied by a marked material poverty and social causes which, though recent, are deeply popular in the northern suburbs of Naples. In this way the Camorra became huge revenues for the sole business of dealing in narcotic drugs, estimated at billions of euros. The Cayx Palace (Danish: Château de Cayx, French: Château de Caïx) is a residence of the Danish Royal Family located in the wine district of Cahors in southern France.

In medieval times the castle formed part of the defences of the town of Luzech due to its dominance of the Lot River. The château de Cayx was bought by the Lefranc de Pompignan family during the eighteenth century. The noted French poet Jean-Jacques Lefranc, marquis de Pompignan spent the latter half of his life there.

The château was first fortified during the fourteenth century. Since then it has been rebuilt and renovated several times. The Pompignans built the extensive wine cellars under the château. A vine infestation devastated the vineyards during the late nineteenth century. The Pompignan family emigrated to Indo-China. They did not return to Europe until 1955. In 1965 the family's heir, Henri Marie Jean André de Laborde de Monpezat, married Princess Margrethe, then heiress presumptive to the Danish throne, becoming Prince Consort of Denmark after she succeeded to Denmark's throne.

The royal couple purchased the château and the estate in 1974. Since then they have renovated it extensively. According to the official website of the Danish monarchy, the residence has become a "relaxed setting for reunions of the entire Danish Royal Family and their French relatives".

The residence is not open to the public. A guided tour of the gardens is available during the summer. The château still produces wine.

Marselisborg Palace is a royal residence of the Danish Royal Family in Aarhus. It has been the summer residence of Queen Margrethe II since 1967.

Historically the 18th-century country house was the property of the Marselis family, originally of Hamburg, giving the seat its name, which signifies "Marselis Castle". Marselisborg became a royal residence when Crown Prince Christian and his consort Princess Alexandrine were given the Palace in 1898 as a wedding present from the people of Denmark. As such the palace is the property of the Kingdom of Denmark, and will remain in possession of all future monarchs of Denmark. The royal couple used it as their summer residence. The building was rebuilt by the Danish architect Hack Kampmann. The present Queen, Margrethe II, was given the palace by her father, King Frederik IX in 1967. Margrethe and her consort Henrik also used the palace as their summer residence. Until this day the residence is used during the summer, as well as during the Easter and Christmas holidays.

The palace is surrounded by a 32-acre park. The park was designed by architect L. Christian Diedrichsen who was commissioned to design the gardens in traditional English landscape style. The gardens feature large sweeping lawns surrounded by trees, small ponds, shrub-covered slopes, a rose garden and a herb garden. When the Queen and her family are in residence at the palace, a changing of the guard ceremony takes place at noon. The park and gardens are both open to the public while the Queen and royal family are not in residence, whereas the palace itself is never open to the public.]]>

Palazzo dei Diamanti is palace in Ferrara, northern Italy. It is one of the most famous palaces in Italy, as well one of the most influential Renaissance European architectures.

Designed by Biagio Rossetti, it was built starting from 1493 by order of Sigismondo d'Este, brother of Duke Ercole I. The most striking features is the bugnato of the exterior walls: it consist of some 8,500 white (with pink veins) marble blocks carved to represent diamonds, whence the common name.

The palace today houses the National Gallery of Art in Ferrara (Pinacoteca Nazionale) and is frequently seat of exhibitions.

The Palace of Dachau in Bavaria was constructed as a medieval castle and became the favourite residence of the Bavarian dukes in the 16th century. The building was therefore extended to a massive four wing complex with a court garden, according to plans of Heinrich Schöttl.

Only one wing still exists, the others were demolished in the early 19th century. The still existing southwest tract was constructed by Hans Wisreutter 1564 - 1566 and redesigned by Joseph Effner 1715 - 1717 in baroque style. The main sight of the palace is the banqueting hall with its coffered renaissance ceiling, designed in 1566 by Hans Wisreutter.

The Doge's Palace is a gothic palace in Venice. In Italian it is called the Palazzo Ducale di Venezia. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice.

Its two most visible facades look towards the Venetian Lagoon and St Mark's Square, or rather the Piazzetta. The use of arcading in the lower stories produces an interesting "gravity-defying" effect. There is also effective use of colour contrasts (unfortunately, the patterns are not well shown in the illustrative photographs accompanying this article...from a distance the colours blur).

The current palace was largely constructed from 1309 to 1424, designed perhaps by Filippo Calendario. It replaced earlier fortified buildings of which relatively little is known. Giovanni and Bartolomeo Bon created the Porta della Carta in 1442, a monumental late-gothic gate on the Piazzetta side of the palace. This gate leads to a central courtyard.

The palace was badly damaged by fire in 1574. In the subsequent rebuilding work it was decided to respect the original gothic style, despite the submission of a neo-classical alternative design by Palladio. However, there are some classical features, for example since the sixteenth century the palace has been linked to the prison by the Bridge of Sighs.

Palazzo Barbieri has, since 1874 been the seat of the council offces, but was originally the 'Gran Guardia Nova' built for military purposes by Giuseppe Barbieri, between 1835 and 1848 on the site of the demolished Misericordia hospital. This large building in Avesa tuff, from a hamlet to the north of the city, is neoclassical in style with a Corinthian colonnade and a central body with a pronaos, also Corinthian in style which rises above a grand staircase. However, the circular body to the back was added immediately following damage to the building during the last war. Inside the building hang two large pictures illustrating Verona's story. The first is by Paolo Farinati representing the 'Victory over Barbarossa at Vacaldo in 1164' and the second is by Felice Brusasorci illustrating the 'Victory of the Veronese over Benacensi in 1849.

The Palazzo Venezia is the name for a large palazzo (palace) in central Rome, just north of the Capitoline Hill. Its name recalls that it once served as the embassy of the Republic of Venice.

Begun in 1455, the building was one of the first Renaissance buildings in Rome; although it was built around the medieval tower at the right of its facade. Much of its stone was quarried from the nearby Colosseum, a common practice in Rome until recent centuries. It was originally inhabited by the Venetian cardinal, Pietro Barbo, who later became Pope Paul II. He supposedly had it built on this location in order to view the horse races in the adjacent Via del Corso.

The building became a papal residence, and Pope Pius IV gave use of much the building to the Republic of Venice for use as its embassy. Throughout the nineteenth century, the building was the seat for the Austrian ambassador to the Vatican.

In 1917, Italy regained possession of the building, and it was restored. Mussolini had his office in the Sala del Mappamondo, and used a balcony in the palazzo for many of his most notable speeches to people gathered in the Piazza Venezia below.

The Museo del Palazzo di Venezia is within the building. It contains galleries of art, predominantly pottery, tapestry, statuary from the early Christian era up to early Renaissance.

The palace was commissioned by Henry VIII, on the site of a former leper hospital dedicated to Saint James the Less (from whom the Palace and its nearby Park take their names); the hospital was disbanded in 1532. The new palace, secondary in interest to Henry's Whitehall Palace, was constructed in the red-brick Tudor style around four courtyards: its gatehouse survives on the north side, flanked by polygonal turrets. It became the principal residence of the monarch in London from 1698, when Whitehall Palace was destroyed by fire, and became the administrative centre of the monarchy (a role it still retains). Mary I died there, with her heart and bowels being buried in the palace's Chapel Royal. Elizabeth I was said to have spent the night there, whilst waiting for the Spanish Armada to sail up the channel. Charles I slept rather less soundly -- as it was his final bed before his execution. Oliver Cromwell then took it over, and turned it into a barracks during the English Commonwealth period. It was then restored by Charles II (Charles I's son), who also laid out St. James's Park.
The first three Georges used St. James's Palace as their principal London residence even though it was far from grand for the city palace of a major European monarchy; Daniel Defoe called it "low and mean" in 1725. In 1809 a fire destroyed part of the palace, including the monarch's private apartments at the south east corner. These apartments were not replaced, leaving the Queen's Chapel in isolation, and Marlborough Road now runs between the two buildings. George III had purchased Buckingham House – the predecessor to Buckingham Palace – for his wife back in 1762, and St. James's continued to decline in importance in the first half of the 19th century. It increasingly came to be used only for formal occasions such as official receptions, royal marriages, and christenings. Queen Victoria formalised the move in 1837, ending St. James's status as the official residence of the monarch. Some structures and interiors survive by Sir Christopher Wren and William Kent, but most was remodelled in the nineteenth century. William Morris and his firm were commissioned to redecorate the Armoury and the Tapestry Room, 1866-67.

The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament or Westminster Palace, in London is where the two Houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom (the House of Lords and the House of Commons) meet to conduct their business. The palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the London borough of the City of Westminster, close by other government buildings in Whitehall.

The palace is one of the largest parliament buildings in the world. The layout of the palace is intricate, with its existing buildings containing nearly 1,200 rooms, 100 staircases and well over three kilometres (two miles) of corridors. Although mainly dating from the 19th century, among the original historic buildings is Westminster Hall, used nowadays for major public ceremonial events such as lyings in state, and the Jewel Tower.

Control of the Palace of Westminster and its precincts was for centuries exercised by the Queen's representative, the Lord Great Chamberlain. By agreement with the Crown, control passed to the two Houses in 1965. Certain ceremonial rooms continue to be controlled by the Lord Great Chamberlain.

After a fire in 1834, the present Houses of Parliament were built over the next 30 years. They were the work of the architect Sir Charles Barry (1795-1860) and his assistant Augustus Welby Pugin (1812-52). The design incorporated Westminster Hall and the remains of St Stephen's Chapel.

It was built for the Count Ludovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso in the 1790, with a project of the Wiener architect Leopold Pollock that was a student of the Milan architect Giuseppe Piermarini. The project was a small revolution in the architecture. Pollock projected a giant villa with a typical dimension of the building and of the park of a suburban villa, but located in the heart of the city. with canals, artficial lakes and falls, small forests and a large esplanade of grass. The gardens where projected by Ettore Silva.
From the 1796 The Villa Belgiojoso changed name in Villa Reale, 'cause it was the house of Napoleone Bonaparte (King of Italy) and then of the Vice-King Eugène Beauharnais.
After the fall of Napoleone the Milan Reign came back under the Austrian dominance and the Villa Reale begun the home of Johann Josef Wenzel Graf Radetzky von Radetz, well know as Feldmarschall Radetzky (and famous for the Radetzky March,a march composed by Johann Strauss Sr and played as final song at every New Year's day concert in Wien). He lived here for many decades and died in the Villa in the 1858.

In the 1919 the Milan Council bought the Villa Reale and from the same year the Villa became the Museum of Modern Art. Still today is the most important museum of Italy for XVIII and XIX Century Italian Art. Another half part of the area is the location of the PAC (Padiglione di Arte Contemporanea), the most important Italian Museum of Contemprary Art, opened in the 1934, then bombed during the II W.W. and rebuilt in the 1954.

The Palais du Rhin ,former Kaiserpalast (Imperial palace), is a building situated in the German section (north-east) of Strasbourg, dominating the Place de la République (the former Kaiserplatz) with its massive dome. A huge building in itself, it constitutes, with the ample gardens that surround it as well as the stables next to it, one of the largest fully preserved landmarks of 19th century Prussian architecture.

Constructed towards the end of the 15th century by Diego de Cáceres; it is also known as the "Palace of the storks" and "Tower of the Storks." It is classifiable as a completely unique construction; this battlement tower overpowers the city demonstrating its grandeur.

Today, it houses the military governance and it corresponds with the House of the Casa de los Cáceres Ovando.

This defensive tower was the only one allowed to be erected during the reign of the Catholic Kings, which couriously it was a time when they ordered the destruction of all of the other towers to teach the rebel lords a lesson due to their arrognace.

The Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) is the town hall of Florence, Italy. This massive, Tuscan Gothic,crenellated fortress-palace is among the most impressive town halls of Tuscany. Overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with its copy of Michelangelo's David statue as well the gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi, it is one of the most significant public places in Italy.
Originally called the Palazzo della Signoria, after the Signoria of Florence, the ruling body of the Republic of Florence, it was also given several other names: Palazzo del Popolo, Palazzo dei Priori, and Palazzo Ducale, in accordance with the varying use of the palace during its long history. Sofiero Palace in Helsingborg Municipality, Scania, was one of the Swedish royal family's country mansions, located 5 km north of Helsingborg. It was originally a Scanian farm called Skabelycke, bought in 1864 by Crown Prince Oscar of Sweden and his wife Sophia of Nassau.[1] The first one-story palace was completed in 1865. The Palacio de Navarra has been the seat of Navarre’s foral institutions since it was built, between 1840 and 1851, in a Neo-classical style by José de Nagusia, being subsequently refurbished in 1932.

Located in the heart of Pamplona and flanked by the Plaza del Castillo and the Paseo de Sarasate, where the column stands that bears the Monument to the Fueros of Navarre, the building is part of the landscape in the city’s historical centre.

The Palace houses a valuable collection of works of art by such artists as Goya, Rubens, Madrazo and Gustavo de Maeztu, which may be viewed on this website through a tour of the building’s halls and offices and which will furthermore explain its history, its precise location and even allow for arranging a personal visit.

The Rajoy palace is a long and elegant four storey granite building that faces Santiago cathedral on the Obradioro square. The entire ground level has an arched walkway running along its length and although uniform in appearance has a central columned and capped feature plus two slightly less exuberant elements of detailing on either side. It was designed by Charles Lemaur, a Frenchman and is distinctly neo-classic in appearance. The large triangular central feature is of particular interest as it depicts the apostle, Saint James, when he was said to have appeared at the "battle of Clavijo" to demonstrate his support of the Spanish.

Today the Rajoy palace is the town hall and also the parliament building for Galicia’s regional government known as the Xunta, but it was built in the eighteenth century with religious uses in mind. It takes its name "Rajoy", from the Bishop who instigated its construction and originally had a variety of uses, most of which were ecclesiastical. First and probably foremost, it was a residence for numerous groupings of cathedral staff including choristers and the many priests who took confessions from the visiting pilgrims. It is believed that many of these priests were bilingual so as to understand the "declarations of guilt" of the numerous foreign pilgrims and this led to them becoming known "lenguajeros".]]>

In 999, Saarbrücken was documented as "Castellum Sarabrucca" for the first time. In The castle was destroyed several times but it was always rebuilt. In the 17th century it was rebuilt in the style of the Rennaissance, and later destroyed again so that today only the cellars of this construction remain. In the 18th century, Prince Wilhelm Heinrich of Nassau-Saarbrücken had his famous architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel build a new residence on the same site, but this time in the Baroque style. During the French Revolution, part of it was burnt down before it was transformed into middle-class flats in 1810. From 1982 to 1989 it was thoroughly renovated. Today, the central block is made of steel and glass.
The castle is now an administrative center and a venue for cultural events, conferences and festivities.]]>

Schloss Cecilienhof is in the Northern part of the New Gardens in Potsdam, close to the Jungfernsee lake. It was the last palace built by the Hohenzollern family. Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany built it for his son Crown Prince Wilhelm of Germany and the crown prince's wife Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The house was designed by Paul Schultze-Naumburg to look like an English Tudor country house and was built between 1914 and 1917. Its design was based on a house called 'Bidston Court' (later 'Hillbark') on the Wirral Peninsula. which in turn was inspired by Little Moreton Hall.

The Potsdam Conference was held at Cecilienhof, from July 17 to August 2, 1945. The participants were the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The three nations were represented by Communist Party General Secretary Joseph Stalin, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and later Clement Attlee, and President Harry S. Truman.

The palace was used for the G8 foreign ministers summit on May 30, 2007.]]>
