It consists of chancel, nave, west tower, vestry, and a south porch. It was built of red sandstone rubble with worked dressings late in the 11th century, probably consisting of a chancel and nave, and it was apparently not until the 15th century that a west tower was added. A vestry with a gallery over was added in the 19th century, and more recently the south porch was rebuilt. The tower is a lofty and imposing structure, out of proportion to so small a church, and the presence of angle buttresses on its east side, which make a very awkward junction with the nave, suggests that it was intended to rebuild the body of the church on a similar scale. All the roofs are covered with modern tiles. There are eight bells in the medieval tower which are rung twice a month for the 9.30 a.m. service, plus weddings and occasional other special events.

The spire was added in the 15th century. The tower contains five bells. The clock on the tower was given in 1907 by General Jago Trelawny after a serious illness. In the church is the earliest known brass in the county. It is an inscription to Sir Ralph Carmynow who died in 1386. The church was much restored in the 1860's. The lychgate is a memorial to Jane Darell Jago, erected by her sister and brothers in 1899. In the churchyard is the tomb of a John Richards Lapenotiere who was the Captain of HMS Pickle at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It was he who brought home to England the news of the Royal Navy's success at Trafalgar and the death of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson. He came to live in Menheniot after he retired from the Royal Navy. He is buried with his wife, Mary Ann and their young son Thomas. The tomb was restored as part of the Trafalgar celebrations in 2005.

In the 1830s Glengarrians from Islay, Scotland settled on the eastern side of Lake Simcoe, Ontario. Their first church was of logs but by 1840 they embarked on building this new church, now known as the Old Stone Church. Disruptions in the Church of Scotland to which the congregation was affiliated led to a split amongst members. Debate over the merits of joining the Free Church of Scotland resulted in the construction of a newer St Andrews which was built in nearby Beaverton to the west. Resolution of a further split in 1927 involved the provincial legislature which passed the "Beaverton Presbyterian Church Act" that year. The Old Stone Church remained in use for a limited number of services which is true to this day. The building was designated a National Historic Site in 1991 owing to its architectural merit. It is a gracious example of the few early stone vernacular churches surviving in Canada. It is also recognized by the Province of Ontario and the municipality, the Township of Brock.
