St. Nicholas convent in the place where klobuk of St. John was found or Nikolaev-Klobukov monastery (Russian: Николаев Клобуков монастырь) in Kashin, Tver Oblast, Russia. Founded in 1400. The first temple of the monastery was built in honor of sanctifier Nickolai Mirlikyisky ,and from here became the first part of the name of the monastery. The second part of the name is Klobukov, it is a very ancient name, and it was mentioned in the XVth century, and it is also connected with sanctifier wonder-worker Ioan Novgorodsky who, by the legend, tamed the demon and orded to take him to Jerusalem to bow to the God's Coffin. Flying over Kashin sanctifier dropped his klobuk, which was later found. On that very place the monastery in honour of Nikolay Chudotvorets (Wonder-worker) was founded. In memory of the wonderful loss by the sanctifier Ioan the second part of the 'Klobukov' monastery appeared.]]>

Monastery of St. Job of Pochaev in Munchen-Obermenzing, Germany (Russian: Обитель преподобного Иова близ Мюнхена, Германия). In 1923, the archimandrite of the Pochaev Lavra Vitaly (Maximenko) exported the historical typography of the Lavra to the Carpathian Mountins. The monastery of St. Job, from 1924 until 1944, furnished all of the Russian Diaspora with service books and spiritual literature. Metropolitan Laurus of New York (January 1, 1928 – March 16, 2008), the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, was born in the village of Ladomirova, Czechoslovakia, (now Slovakia). When he was five, he began serving at the altar of the Church of St. Job at the Pochaev Monastery in Ladomirova, which was the parish church for the local Orthodox population. In 1939 he began to fully participate in the monastery life. He remained within the monastery throughout World War II, until the approach of the Soviet Army in 1944. When in 1944, Soviet forces neared the monastery, a large portion of the monks left for Germany, then to Switzerland, and finally to Jordanville. Those monks who did not depart for America, along with new novices and monks, gathered around Archimandrite Job in Germany, near Munich.]]>

Trinidad was founded by natives that came from the mission of San Carlos. Its main architects were fathers Juan Bautista Prímoli of Milan and the Catalan Jose Grimau. Uncompleted, this mission had one of the larges and prettiest churches of all missions, according to descriptions by travelers of that period.

After crossing the nave of the old church, you can see an impressive view of the frieze high on the altar wall, entirely decorated on the very stone, with a sequence of angels in baroque postures and their instruments. The two doors giving access to the sacristies are worth mentioning: the columns with disproportionate capitals and a triple row of leaves supporting the frieze with two lateral pillars and a sculptural motif in the center.

On the west side are the ruins of the tower and a long chapel. The tower, with a square base, reminds us of a fort tower and it is not known whether it was a belfry, an observation tower, or both at the same time. The chapel was probably used while the main church was being built. One of the sacristies also holds a small museum with local items (in original colors) and a scale model of the mission. It was declared Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO in 1993.]]>

It was built between 1594 and 1606 by Francesco Zamberlan of Bassano, a pupil of Palladio, to house a miraculous image of a sitting Madonna with Child carrying a rose. The edifice has octagonal plan, surrounded by a portico, begun in 1594. The original construction had a cupola, which was later substituted by a simple ceiling for static reasons. The fine campanile, standing at 57 m, was built according to plans by Baldassarre Longhena (1655–1673). The walls of the interior of the church are wholly covered by 17th centuries paintings by prominent provincial and Venetian artists, including Francesco Maffei, Domenico Stella, Giovanni Abriani, Alessandro Varotari (il Padovanino), Pietro Vecchia, Pietro Liberi, Antonio Zanchi and Andrea Celesti.]]>

The great Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (built in the 13th century over another Cathedral), one of the biggest in Piedmont, in Romanesque-Gothic style. The monumental belfry is from 1266. the facade is characterized by three portals, each surmounted by a big rose-window. The interior, with a nave and two aisles, houses a wide cycle of 18th century frescoes, some altarpieces by Gandolfino d'Asti and precious silver artworks from the 15th-16th centuries. The presbytery has a noteworthy mosaic floor, from the pre-existing church. next to the last pilasters of the nave are two 14th century artworks, the funerary seal of bishop Baldracco Malabaila and the equestrian portrait of Arricino Moneta.

Antvorskov was the principal Scandinavian monastery of the Roman Catholic Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, located about one kilometer south of the town of Slagelse on Zealand, Denmark.

In 1165, Valdemar the Great, who was himself an honorary Knight of St John, gave the Order land at Antvorskov. The monastery (Danish:kloster) was constructed soon thereafter, during the time of Archbishop Eskil. The mother monastery, on Rhodes, and a monastery on Cyprus were built to house pilgrims to the Holy Land. Daughter houses such as Antvorskov were to forward any profits from properties to the monastery on Rhodes. Over time, however, especially after the collapse of Crusader kingdoms in Palestine, the Order focused more on helping local people, especially those suffering from leprosy, which was not uncommon in medieval Europe.

Antvorskov served as the Scandinavian headquarters of the Order, known also as "the Hospitallers", and the prior of Antvorskov reported directly to the great officer of the Order in Germany, the Grand Master of the Order on Rhodes (and, later, on Malta), and the pope. As a result, Antvorskov was one of the most important monastic houses in Denmark. Before the Reformation, its prior often served as a member of the Council of State (Danish:rigsråd) as well.

In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the monastery became one of Denmark's major landowners. Many persons nearing death and seeking to withdraw from the world into a quasi-religious life donated some or all of their goods to the monastery. Many families seeking heavenly rest for their kinsmen donated property to buy prayers in perpetuity for those deceased relatives, or to buy burial places inside the abbey church.

Æbelholt Abbey (Danish: Æbelholt Kloster) was an Augustinian monastery situated in Tjæreby, 5 km west from Hillerød.

The monastery was first established on Eskilsø Island in Roskilde Fjord in 1104. While no remains of the wooden abbey have survived, the stone abbey church there still remains, though in ruins. It was 24 meters long and had a nave, choir, and apse in the Romanesque style. The monks became "unruly" and Bishop Absalon of Roskilde, determined to obtain a new Augustinian superior, sent for his friend, William, abbot of the abbey of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris. When William arrived in 1165 with three French canons there were only six religious left at Eskilsø, two of whom were dismissed when they refused to submit to the new rule.

In 1167 the abbey moved to Æbelholt in Tjæreby, supported by a donation of land from Absalon in Tjæreby Parish and endowed with several income-producing farms, tithes from many north Zealand churches, and several mills. The monastery on Eskilsø was closed. The first church and abbey at Æbelholt were made of timber. Construction began almost immediately on a new abbey church of limestone which was completed in 1210.

Abbot William experienced considerable initial difficulties. The three French canons returned to Paris, finding conditions in Denmark too bleak. A few of the Danish canons plotted to murder him when he ordered that they eat "herbs and leaves" instead of their usual meals. The "Life of St. William" notes some of the ways in which they considered killing him, either by setting fire to a pile of straw near his bed in the dormitory, putting him in a sack and drowning him, or taking an axe to him. Eventually William's piety, fairness, wisdom, and intelligence won them and the local populace over. He was considered a saint in his own lifetime. He was highly regarded by several kings of Denmark and served as an intermediary between the pope and the Danish monarchy.

Abbot William died on 5 April 1203 at the age of 75. Miracles at his grave and in connection with his relics brought pilgrims in great numbers, and the abbey developed into the greatest Augustinian house in the north. By 1210 the list of miracles and signs recorded was so great that the Archbishop of Lund, Anders Sunesen, petitioned Pope Honorius III for his canonization. In 1219 the pope authorized several bishops to investigate the claims with an eye to making William a saint. The result was a book The Life of Abbot William which was submitted for the pope's consideration.

William was canonized in 1224. On 16 June 1238 with great ceremony William's body was translated to lie inside the high altar in the new abbey church. A small separate chapel was constructed over the his previous grave, so pilgrims could visit without disturbing the monks. In time relics of Saint William were given to Roskilde Cathedral, Lund Cathedral, the Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) and Greyfriars Church in Copenhagen, and Greyfriars Church in Roskilde.

The church was designed by architect Felix Dusant and listed 1732-34. Inauguration was on 6th. January 1734 by the Bishop of Zealand, Christen Worm.

To the church is Frederiksberg Older Cemetery located where a lot of Danish celebrities have found their last resting place.

Among those buried here is Adam Oehlenschläger, a Danish poet and playwright. He introduced romanticism into Danish literature.

The Sandy Sct. Laurentii Church is about. four kilometers southwest of Skagen-center in the plantation area east of the main road.

The church was probably built in the late 1300 century. At that time, the largest church in Vendsyssel.

By sand drift beginning in the 16th century it became increasingly difficult for the congregation to dig through to the church at worship. The fight against the sand stood on until 1795 when the church was closed on the orders of King Christian 7.

The church aisle was pulled down and used in other projects, but the tower was spared and used as a beacon.

Today the tower is protected and after studies in 1994, the church vestry and aisle location in the ground now marked with red stakes. Faskine marks where the old kirkegårdsmur stood.]]>

The nave is from the 12th century,
the choir and tower is from the 15th century is from 16th century.

In the chruch you will find frescoes from the 14th century in
the vaulted ceiling of the nave and a stained glass painting from 1955.
The pulpit is from 1596 and the altar from 1575.
Here is the most important treasure of the church:
the famous Christian the Third Bible from 1550.

The Earl of Bothwell, Mary Stuarts third husbond, is buried in a coffin
in the crypt below the chapel in Fårevejle Church.

Mårup Church is a church in Mårup Parish in Hjørring Municipality. The church is on Lønstrup Cliff, a ca. 15 km long coastal slope between Lønstrup and Løkken. It was built in 1200s.

On 24 March 2008 the church was used for the last time to worship in connection with service 2 Easter Monday.

Mårup Church was in 1987 used as a location during filming for Gabriel Axel Oscar-winning film Babette Feast, based on Karen Blixen's story of the same name.

The Church of Our Saviour (Danish: Vor Frelsers Kirke) is a church in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is characterized by its black and golden spire and carillon, which plays melodies every hour from 8 am to midnight.

The spire is open for visitors who can walk on the outside of it and get a spectacular view over Copenhagen. The church is mentioned in Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

The church of our saviour was built in the late 1600s, a time where church construction in Denmark stood still. Opposed to other Danish churches, The Church of Our Saviour has a Dutch baroque-style.

The church's architect, Lambert van Haven was the "generalbygmester" of the king. He drew the church in 1682, and never got to see his church fully constructed because of his death in 1695.

Hämeenlinna Church from 1798 was designed by Louis Jean Desprez, painter to the court of King Gustav III. It was modelled from Pantheon in Rome which was greatly admired by the king. The altar stood in the middle of the amphitheatre-shaped church, and the pulpit was above the sacristy door.

The new church was not much liked by local people who said that it looked like a kettle and there wasn't even a tower. Separate wooden tower was added but it was burned in the fire of 1831 which destroyed most of the town. The present tower was built in 1837. In 1892 the original layout of the church was lost when cross arms were added and interior was changed from amphitheatre to normal seating arrangement.]]>

Sretensky Monastery (Russian: Сретенский монастырь) is a Russian Ortodox monastery in Moscow, founded by Grand Prince Vasili I in 1397. The origin of the monastery's name comes from "Sretenie", lit. Meeting, of the icon of Our Lady of Vladimir by the muscovites and the ruling Prince on August 26, 1395, when this icon was moved from Vladimir to Moscow to protect the capital from the imminent invasion of Tamerlane. Soon thereafter, the armies of Tamerlane retreated and the grateful monarch founded the monastery to commemorate the miracle.

St. John Chrysostom Monastery (Russian: Златоустовский монастырь) is a Russian Ortodox monastery founded in Moscow and first mentioned in 1412 when a Novgorod archdeacon was buried there. In 1478, Grand Prince Ivan III, who had a suburban palace nearby, had the wooden cathedral rebuilt in stone. In 1660 this cathedral was replaced by a new five-domed cathedral. It was damaged and restored many times. In 1706 the monastery hegumen was raised to the rank of archmandrite.

Starodevichesky or Starodevichy Ascension Convent (Russian: Стародевический или Стародевичий Вознесенский монастырь, lit. Ancient Maidens' Convent - to differ from New Maidens' Convent) is a female cloister in the Moscow Kremlin, which contained the burials of grand princesses, tsarinas, and other noble ladies from the Muscovite royal court. Founded by St. Eudoxia of Moscow, widow of St. Dmitry Donskoy, in 1389. She was the first noble lady who would take the veil there.

St. Tryphon Monastery in Pechenga (Russian: Трифонов Печенгский монастырь; Finnish: Petsamon luostari) was for many centuries the northernmost monastery in the world. It was founded in 1533 by St. Tryphon, a monk from Novgorod. By 1572, the Pechenga Monastery counted about 50 brethren and 200 lay followers. In 1583 the wooden monastery was raided and burnt down by the Swedes. It is said that the raid claimed the lives of 51 monks and 65 lay brothers. The oldest Quaker meeting house in the state lies at Seaville, in Cape May cty. It is a modest structure, erected in 1716 or 1727, and might be mistaken for a small Pinelands or shore cottage built 200 years later. Nikolo-Korelsky Monastery (Russian: Николо-Корельский монастырь) is a Russian Ortodox monastery in Severodvinsk (Russia). Founded by St. Euphemius, an Orthodox missionary in the Karelian lands. In 1419 the Swedes burnt down this monastery, but the abbey stood in ruins until 1471, when two sons of Marfa Boretskaya were killed by a vicious storm and their bodies were recovered on the beach near the monastery twelve days later. At the urging of Boretskaya, the monastery was restored and her sons were buried there.
