Zendstation Smilde is a tall, free-standing structure, similar to the Gerbrandy Tower and was built for directional radio services and TV and FM-transmissions in 1959 in the Netherlands. Its base is an 80 metre high reinforced concrete tower, on which a guyed mast is mounted. At construction the height of the tower of Zendstation Smilde was 270 metres with this mast. A section was added later so its total height is now 303.5 m (996 ft).

The KXJB-TV mast is a television transmitting tower in Traill County, North Dakota, United States. At 2060 ft (628 m), it is the second-tallest artificial structure in the world, shorter by 3 ft (1 m) than the KVLY-TV mast which stands a few miles away.

Located 3.5 miles (6 km) northeast of Galesburg, North Dakota, it was completed in 1966, to replace the station's previous mast, a 1,085-foot (331 m) tower 15 miles (25 km) northeast of Valley City, North Dakota which was sold to KOVC, an AM radio station.

The antenna transmits at 100 kW for CBS affiliate KXJB-TV of Valley City/Fargo; the station and tower are owned by Parker Broadcasting of Fargo.

The Hillbrow Tower is a tall mast located in the suburb of Hillbrow in Johannesburg, South Africa. Construction for the tower began in June of 1968 and was completed three years later in April 1971. Construction cost Rand 2 million (USD 330,000, though at the time around four million USD) and produced the 269 metre (730 feet) tower that stands today. The tower was initially known as the JG Strijdom Tower after JG Strijdom, the South African Prime Minister from 1954 to 1958.

The tower was constructed for what became Telkom, South Africa's largest telecommunications company. As the general height of buildings rose in the central business district, it was necessary that the new telephone tower had to stay above the general height of the tallest building.

Designed by architect Fritz Trautwein, in co-operation with civil engineers Jörg Schlaich, Rudolf Bergermann and Fritz Leonhardt, it was built 1965–1968 for former Deutsche Bundespost (German Federal Post and Telecommunications Agency, now Deutsche Telekom's subsidiary Deutsche Funkturm GmbH) near Planten un Blomen (Hamburg's city park) and the St. Pauli district. With an overall height of 279,2 m (916 ft) it is Hamburg's tallest building; it comprises a 204 m (670 ft) steel-enforced concrete lower section, topped by a 45 m (148 ft) steel-lattice tower and a three-segmented cylinder of about 30 m (98 ft), which supports various antennas.

There are eight concentric platforms stacked one above the other; starting at 128 m (420 ft) with the two-story observation (lower floor) and restaurant (upper floor) platform, served by two high-speed elevators. Above that at 150 m (492 ft) is the operations platform housing the workforce and equipment, and further up six differentially sized, smaller open platforms in same distances, populated with high-gain directional microwave radio relay antennas ("parabolic mirrors"). Number nine was added at 25 m height in July 2005.

The Star Tower is a 956 foot (291.4 m) high transmitting tower for TV and FM in Cincinnati, Ohio . It was built for WSTR-TV, then known as "Star 64", which still broadcasts from the tower antenna pointing northwest for digital. It was built in 1991 using a helicopter. Similar structures designed by the same firm exist in Mesquite, Texas (Mesquite Municipal Communications Facility) and the Washington, D.C. area (WDCW, Hughes Memorial Tower), and at a smaller scale on Poor Mountain, Virginia (WPXR). Radio stations that broadcast from the tower include WAKW-FM, WAQZ-FM, and WGRR-FM. WRRM-FM has backup facilities at the site.

The Fernmeldeturm Nürnberg, the tallest structure in Bavaria, is the Nürnberg telecommunication tower, also called the Nürnberger Ei (Egg of Nuremberg) because of its egg-shaped tower basket in a height of 185 metres, is 292 metres high and was built between 1977 and 1980 according to blueprints by architect Erwin Heinle. The tower basket accommodates transmission mechanisms for Frequency modulation, DAB, UMTS, pager, amateur radio and a microwave radio relay link and – closed since 1991 – a rotating restaurant and a prospect platform. Responsible operator is the DFMG Deutsche Funkturm (German radio tower) GmbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom based in Münster. From 22 January 2003 to 4 April 2003 the Nürnberg telecommunication tower also served for the spreading of the program of megaradio on mediumwave frequency 945 kHz. For this a wire antenna was strung along the tower shaft, from the top of the tower to the roof of an operating building near the tower.

Yerevan TV Tower is a 311.7 metre high lattice tower on Nork Hill in Yerevan, Armenia. It was built from 1974 to 1977 as a replacement for the old 180-meter high TV tower at Yerevan. Currently being the highest point in the city, it is one of the highest towers in the world.

Installation of the tower in 1977 allowed to receive wide variety of programs from the Moscow Central television, as well as from other Soviet Union republics. The average daily length of programs broadcasted by Armenian television reached twelve hours, of which two and a half hours in color, including four hours thirty five minutes of own programing. Ninety six percent of the population watched the first program. In 1978 it became possible to also receive the fourth channel of the Central television in Armenia.

The WITI Tower was completed in August of 1962 and was briefly the tallest free-standing tower in the world, rising 1078 feet. (Tokyo Tower had been the world's tallest, and after the construction of WITI's tower, it added additional members to regain the title.) For many years, it was the tallest free-standing tower in the United States. The Bentley Company was the foundation contractor for the Dresser Ideco tower, which was erected by the Seago Construction Co.

The village of Shorewood, Wisconsin allowed WITI to build the tower on a piece of privately-owned land that might have completed Estabrook Parkway along the Milwaukee River. Doing so added to the village's tax base. The WTMJ-TV and WISN-TV towers were nearby, and locating the tower there meant that Milwaukee TV viewers could point their antennas in the same general direction. However, there was no room for guy-wires on the property, and as such the tower had to be free-standing. In August of 1962, construction of a 1078 foot tower at East Capitol Drive and Estabrook Parkway was completed. It was formally dedicated on 9 October 1962. WMVS leased space on the tower for many years.

WITI was looking for a way to make the tower a Milwaukee landmark, and in October of 1963, the station received permission from the Shorewood village board to install lights on it. Shortly thereafter, approximately 2000 25 watt lights were installed. Station manager Roger LeGrand then coined the phrase "Milwaukee's Tower of Light". Some neighbors objected. The Shorewood village attorney opined that the lighted "6" sign might violate the village's lighted sign ordinance, but that the lights affixed to the tower's legs were legal. The village later declared the lights and the sign to be legal. (Except for special requests - such as to aid navigation on Lake Michigan during sailing races - the tower was only lit from dusk until midnight.)

The lights stayed on until the energy crisis of 1973-74, when at the suggestion of a viewer they were turned off. They were finally removed in 2003 when the station began converting the tower for digital TV.
