Koppenberg (literally "Heads Mountain") is a 77 m (253 ft) high hill in Oudenaarde, the Flemish Ardennes, Belgium. "Koppen" is an abbreviation for cobblestones which in Dutch slang language are called kinderkoppen, or "children's heads". This climb is part of the route of the Ronde van Vlaanderen professional cycling race and feared by many because of its steepness (22% on the trickiest parts) and because of its cobblestones. This makes the Koppenberg difficult even for top professionals. On March 7, 2012, the city of St. Petersburg paid tribute to the late Dan Wheldon by naming this short stretch of roadway "Dan Wheldon Way" and plans to erect a nearby permanent memorial.

This section of road serves as Turn 10 on the annual IndyCar street course race held here. On April 3, 2005, Wheldon made a pass for the lead in this turn on his way to winning the event. Wheldon and his family lived in St. Petersburg since 2005. He perished in a racing accident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 16, 2011.]]>

Spain has its Kilometre Zero in the centre of the Puerta del Sol in Madrid (incidentally, the clock of the old Royal House of the Post Office, in front of which the plaque is located, marks the official time in Spain, according to the urban legend). The plaque that marks this point was turned around 180 degrees in 2002 because the map of Spain depicted on it was upside down in relation to the modern depiction of Spain.

The street runs East from the First Circle to Mango Street, and contains several landmarks including the Embassy of Saudi Arabia and the British Council building, as well as the headquarters of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company and the cinema after which the street is renamed. Le Passage de Gois ou Gôa is a natural, periodically flooded passage leading to the island of Noirmoutier in France. It is located between Île de Noirmoutier and Beauvoir-sur-Mer, in the department of Vendée. It is flooded twice a day by the high tide.

Every year, a foot race – the Foulées du Gois– is held across it, starting at the onset of the high tide.

This is similar to Laaningsvejen in Denmark, except you can park along this road what you can't in Denmark.

Former NHL tough guy Chris Simon had a street in his hometown renamed in his honour in 2006. The road passes by the local ice arena.

Simon began his pro career in 1992 and made his NHL debut later that season with the Quebec Nordiques. After the team relocated to Denver, he spent one season with the Colorado Avalanche, where he was a member of the Stanley Cup champions.

The next season, he was traded to the Washington Capitals, where he played for six seasons. The next five seasons saw him dress with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders, and Minnesota Wild.

In 2008, he took his career to the KHL Russian league, where he still plays today.

Trampe bicycle lift

In Trondheim you can find the only bicycle lift this kind in the World. It's called Trampe and is 130 meters long and goes up the hill of the Brubakken road.

It was opened In August 1993. It was authorized for unmanned operation in May 1994. In the time interval 1993-1998, Trampe was a test project.

Paulista Avenue (Avenida Paulista in Portuguese, Paulista being the gentilic for those born in São Paulo state) is one of the most important avenues in São Paulo, Brazil. The 2.8 kilometre thoroughfare is notable for headquartering a large number of financial and cultural institutions, as well as being home to an extensive shopping area and to Latin America's most comprehensive fine-art museum, MASP. Trollstigen (English: The Troll Path) is a mountain road in Rauma, Norway, part of Norwegian National Road 63 connecting Åndalsnes in Rauma and Valldal in Norddal. It is a popular tourist attraction due to its steep incline of 9% and eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountain side. Trollstigen was opened on July 31, 1936, by King Haakon VII after 8 years of construction.

The road up is narrow with many sharp bends, and although it has been widened in recent years, vehicles over 12.4 metres long are prohibited from driving the road. At the top there is large parking place which allows visitors to leave their cars and walk for about ten minutes to a viewing balcony which overlooks the road with its bends and the Stigfossen waterfall. Stigfossen is a beautiful waterfall which falls 320 metres down the mountain side.

The slope between Umagaeshi in the City of Nikko and Lake Chuzenji in Tochigi Prefecture on Route 120 is known for beautiful crimson leaves on the trees along the road in autumn.
The path was traveled in old times by worshippers heading to Mt. Nantai and Chuzen Temple.
The slope was given its current name, Irohazaka, during the early Showa period. Since the path has 48 curving locations, which coincides with 48 characters in the old Japanese alphabet of i, ro, ha, and so on, on the guide announcement of the aerial tramway.

A traffic jam stretching more than 60 miles in China has entered its ninth day with no end in sight, state media reported.

Cars and trucks have been slowed to a crawl since August 14 on the National Expressway 110, which is also known as the G110, the major route from Beijing to Zhangjiakou, Xinhua News reported.

Officials expect the congestion to continue until workers complete construction projects on September 13, the report said.

Britain's Sky News reported that the snarls have been commonplace since May as a result of a spike in the number of trucks using the roads, with the daily peak reaching about 17,000.

"Insufficient traffic capacity on the National Expressway 110 caused by maintenance construction since August 19 is the major cause of the congestion," a Beijing Traffic Management Bureau spokesman told the Global Times.

Chinese national radio reported Sunday that minor traffic accidents and broken-down vehicles have complicated the traffic mess, Xinhua reported.

Approximately 400 police officers are patrolling the road 24 hours a day in an effort to keep the situation calm, Sky News said.
Motorists have taken to card games or chess to pass the time, Sky News reported. Others joked that "concerts should be held at each congested area every weekend, to alleviate drivers' homesickness," the report said.

Residents from communities alongside the expressway have seen opportunity in the traffic slowdown, setting up food and drink kiosks for the drivers.]]>

The highway is part of the Hanshin Expressway, a network (239.3 km) of expressways surrounding Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto, Japan. The Gate Tower Building is Japan's first building to have a highway pass through it. And it had been nicknamed "beehive" referring to its appearance as a "bustling place".

The Umeda Exit of the Ikeda Route of the Hanshin Expressway system passes through this building. The expressway is the tenant of these floors. The elevator doesn't stop on floor 5th-7th, floor 4 being followed by floor 8. These floors consist of elevators, stairways, machinery and other stuff. The highway passes through the building as a bridge, held up by supports next to the building making no contact with the building itself. The building has a double core construction, with a circular cross section and special care is taken by providing surrounded structure to the highway to protect the building from noise and vibration. Generally expressways are built underground, and passing through a building is an extremely rare occasion. It dates back to 1983, when the redevelopment of this area was decided upon, "building permits were refused because the highway was already being planned to be built over this land. The property rights' holders refused to give up, and negotiated with the Hanshin Expressway corporation for approximately 5 years to reach the current solution."]]>

In the end, the constant jokes were just too much to take for the long-suffering residents of Butt Hole Road.
Groups of youths used to visit the street and bare their backsides for photographs while many delivery firms simply refused to believe it existed.
And coachloads of amused American tourists frequently turned up to view the sign after it appeared in a US book.
And so despairing households in the suburban street in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire, decided that the road's name simply had to change.

The North Yungas Road (also Grove's Road, Coroico Road, Camino de las Yungas, El Camino de la Muerte, Road of Death, and Death Road) is a 61 to 69 km road (depending on source) leading from La Paz to Coroico, 56 km (35 miles) northeast of La Paz in the Yungas region of Bolivia. It is legendary for its extreme danger and in 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank christened it as the "world's most dangerous road". One estimate is that 200-300 travelers were killed yearly along the road. Others claim Gravity Hill is the site of a buries meteorite with a powerful magnetic force.
