It flows from the most extensive underwater cave in Texas, opening in the bed of Cypress Creek, a few miles North of Wimberley, Texas. The twelve foot (four meter) diameter mouth of the cave serves as a popular swimming and water recreation spot for the local land owners whose properties adjoin Cypress Creek.

From the opening in the creek bed, Jacob's Well descends vertically for about thirty feet (ten meters), continuing from there at an angle as a series of chambers separated by narrow, often deeply silted and unstable necks, ultimately reaching a depth of at least one hundred-twenty feet (forty meters). From the dawn of recorded history until the modern era, the Trinity Aquifer-fed natural artesian spring gushed water from the mouth of the cave and as much as thirty feet (ten meters) into the air.

Documented flow in 1924 was one hundred-seventy gallons per second (six hundred-forty liters per second), discharging six feet (two meters) into the air. This spring is the most visible source of Cypress Creek, and a source of water recharging the Edwards Aquifer.
Some people theorize that the creature is the product of genetic experimentation being done on animals at nearby Plum Island, who's true purpose has always been shrouded in secrecy by the US government.
It should be noted that there are 2 somewhat-conflicting main stories that were made public regarding the original sighting of the monster. The first story places the monster at Ditch Plains Beach, part of Rheinstein Estate Park, when it was first seen. The second story places the monster at Montauk Beach, near the Surfside Inn, when it was first seen. The two locations are about 2 miles apart from each other on the same contiguous stretch of beach. This map entry, of course, shows the Montauk Beach location.

The strait between Naruto and Awaji island has a width of about 1.3 km. The strait is one of the connections between the Pacific Ocean and the Inland Sea, a body of water separating Honshū and Shikoku, two of the main islands of Japan. The tide moves large amounts of water into the Inland Sea twice per day, and also removes large amounts of water twice a day. With a range of up to 1.7 m, the tide creates a difference in the water level of up to 1.5 m between the Inland Sea and the Pacific. Due to the narrowness of the strait, the water rushes through the Naruto channel at a speed of about 13-15 km/h four times per day, twice flowing in and twice flowing out. During a spring tide, the speed of the water may reach 20 km/h, creating vortices up to 20 m in diameter.

The current in the strait is the fastest in Japan and the fourth fastest in the world after the Saltstraumen outside Bodø in Norway, which reaches speeds of 37 km/h, the Moskstraumen off the Lofoten islands in Norway (the original maelstrom), which reaches speeds of 27.8 km/h; and the Old Sow whirlpool in New Brunswick, Canada, which has been measured with a speed of up to 27.6 km/h.

The whirlpools can be observed from ships, or from the Naruto Bridge spanning the strait. The suspension bridge has a total length of 1629 m, with the center span over the strait having a length of 876 m and a height of 41 m above sea level. A good view is also possible from the shore on Awaji island.

From www.austinexplorer.com:

Treaty Oak is by far the most famous tree in Austin. This 500 year old giant was once one of fourteen trees referred to by local Indians as the Council Oaks. Treaty Oak in particular was revered by both the Commaches and Tonkowas. Legend states that it was under this tree that Stephen F. Austin signed a treaty with the Indians from which its name was derived. This majestic tree once sported a 127 foot spread and was considered to be the finest example of a mature oak in the world. In 1929 the tree was added to the American Forestry Association's compilation of famous and historic U.S. trees.
Over the years the Council Oaks were cut down one by one until only Treaty Oak remained. The city of Austin purchased the tiny lot on which Treaty Oak stands in 1937, saving it from planned destruction.
The tree that exists today is a shadow of its former self, thanks to a deranged person who tried to poison the tree in 1989. An extensive effort to save Treaty Oak was a success, but at a cost of sacrificing almost two thirds of its canopy. The tree continues to recover however and in 1997 produced its first acorns since the poisoning.

Prior to 1973, cut trees were donated for the Pageant of Peace. In that year, a 42-foot blue spruce from northern Pennsylvania was donated by the National Arborist Association, with the idea that it would serve as a permanent National Christmas Tree. Unfortunately, in 1976 that tree began dying, and the following year, a new replacement tree was blown over during a wind storm. In 1978, a 40-foot-tall living Colorado blue spruce, donated by an anonymous family in Maryland, was transplanted to the Ellipse where it has served as the National Christmas Tree ever since.

From the UNESCO Advisory Body Evaluation:
Each of the two components of the nomination are at the end of two major fjord systems that developed along faults and fracture zones at right angles, giving them a characteristic zigzag form. Both fjords are submarine hanging valleys, which have floors between 300-500m deep in ice-scoured basins. The fjords are 1-2 km wide and their sides reach a height of 1300m in places. They are surrounded by mountains with old transhumance farms in the hanging valleys, and high glacier lakes.
The rivers which enter each of the fjords have not been developed for hydroelectric power as have most others in the region.
Though their differences are not dramatic, the two areas that comprise the property complement each other. Nærøyfjord is located 100km inland near the end of
Sognefjord. Its fjords are 250m-2.5km wide with adjacent cliff faces 900-1400m high. The surrounding mountains are smooth-topped with high glacial lakes and a plateau glacier. The uplands of Nærøyfjord preserve much of the rounded landforms of the pre-glacial fluvialdominated landscape. The Geirangerfjord mountains are more alpine in character; block fields are more prevalent and there is still permafrost and several small glaciers on the highest summits.
