I live in the large housing at the bottom of the hill next to the big field. 1964 to 1967, once we watched two American kids try to ride their bikes down the path, both ended up in the wheat field at the bottom and the farmers were not happy. To get to school we would walk past the tall walls of the cemetery with an old German who hatted us American kids. We all sang "Hey hey get out of our way we just got in from the USA.

To Kjfitz - We may have had classes together later, in 6th or 7th I didn't actually have Mr. Richards, but he was so vivid he looms large in my memory. I had Mr. Lyons. Loved that man. I still count him as one of the best teachers I ever had. As a teacher now, I often model my practices on him, especially his respectful address of children. Granted, my first day of 5th grade he told me the kindergarten was downstairs. Easy mistake considering my size, plus I was wearing a "Buffy"...

To the commenter above who lived in Parco Azzuro from 71-74. I had many of the same teachers you had. I had Mr Richards for 5th grade from 71-72. We may have been in the same class! I think he actually wore those 60's Nehru jackets instead of kimonos. I hadn't thought of that in years. The Stanley's were good friends of ours and his son Jay (who was your and my age) and I had regular sleepovers. Mr Stanley lives in the SF Bay area now but I've lost track of Jay.

Worked as CYN/YN2 on staff of Admiral O.H. Perry 1968 through early 1970 and would enjoy hearing from anyone who also worked at Comsubflot 8 during that time. The whole Naples experience was a joy....over the years I've come to value it more and more; what an experience having so much history within a few miles. What did I do? Like most young guys I took it for granted. Memories, however, are a treasure.

I was looking for a map of Fort Jackson, where I did my basic and advanced training in 1970. I looked at Google Earth and now these maps and wondered..........where the hell is the base? The maps make it look like a combination amusement park and suburb community. Where are the barracks? Where is Tank Hill? Where is the actual base itself in this mess? Where is the MIT communications school? This doesn't even remotely look like where I spent my training months.

Spent a couple weeks here in the early 80's on reserve duty. Stayed in an apartment across from the gate to NSA. Trying to find the restaurant that was out the gate right and straight down the hill. Seemed that we then crossed a fairly wide road at a tee intersection and walked into a vineyard or garden for a bit. Interior was decorated as a woodland. Great food, overlooked a field.
