Not sure at this point; I've only been down to this part of town once. My guess is that they're a quick way to keep the vans parked in particluar spaces, but that's pure speculation.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to grab some photos in the next few weeks.

You might remove "the other Pompeii" from the title. In fact there were several cities/villages buried by the eruption of 79 AD. It looks a little bit 'simple' to suggest that Herculaneum is the other Pompeii.

It sure looks like it now that you mentioned it. The grounds were part of 'Deer Park' which is part of Woburn Abbey's land. The area to the immediate south is Woburn Safari Park and the field abutting the dual line of trees to the west of the three triangles is the area where Bison are grazed.

Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Dukes of Bedford but none of the coats of arms for them look like this one.

The maps of the parks and abbey don't point out these...

Actually, I gained more sympathy for these animals after hearing this. To take animals away from their native climate and imprison them in the cold cloudy weather of Northern England is inhumane. Actually, this isn't the GE pavilion. One dome os composed of triangles and the other diamonds. Also, the GE pavilion had the white circle on the top and this doesn't. I guess this is just a sort of semi-sphere

That's a fishing pond within what's called the Pocket Park. It's an attempt by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to introduce urban kids in Detroit to outdoor activities that they otherwise would have no exposure to. I did a stint with the DNR through Americorps, and we did a lot of work there. I built the archery range that you can see on the left side.

I'm sorry to point out that this is incorrect but not far off. This map is centered on the presently in-use state park camping area. The ammo dumps (bunkers) are to the north and east and have been completely destroyed. Some motor pool and factory buildings remain north-north-east but the asbestos abatement has reduced them to mere hulks.

These aircraft are Coast Guard C-130s. There are a total of five based at the station. They fly routine surveilence, disaster assistance and trainning missions. I live on the main North to South approach to St. Petersburg/Clearwater airport. I see these guys about every day flying all manner of approaches. Last hurricane season they were constantly on the move. Also flown out that station is the Sikorsky Blackhawks set up for para rescue operations. Many years ago they flew the Pelicans...
