I was a corpsman working on Via Manzoni in '63-'64. My name is Archie Jones and I was called "Scramble" by some buddies. Was pals with Joe Ortenzio and Tony Cappadona.

It was a great time and I've been back on several occasions. I remember the canneloni at the Flamingo, the beach, ordering food out from one of the bars on Carravagio, hearing about Kennedy and much more.

Not good with names, but do remember the CPO "Shaky Jake" and...

I made several trips to NSA Naples and AFSOUTH, on liberty off the carriers. I never really knew where I was since it was like driving around in a maze. I bought my first good stereo system there in '77. I was walking around in the NEX there once and heard someone whispering my name. I looked around to see a girlfriend I had known at NAS Jacksonville. I always thought it would be cool to be stationed there for a while. I know I would have enjoyed it. Good memories...

It seems that this estate, build in 1927, had quite a rich history, and was even considered haunted. Katharine Hepburn lived here in the 1930s, with Leland Hayward.

In the late 1930s and the first half of 1940s, it was occupied by Boris Karloff. The story says that it was Karloff who planted the estate’s rose garden, which stands to this day.

Then it passed to a producer, who rented it to the Scottish singer Donovan and to Elliott Gould, at different times...

They would have to completely reconstruct everything and set up new water supply lines in order for it to be able to reopen. I've been there and everything is just so decayed and rotted there would be no way that they could use hardly any of the original structuring or systems. It would cost millions for them to somewhat restore and would just be a huge waste of money for the company. As much as I would like to see it reopen the probability of that happening is very close to zero
