The World Map at Lake Klejtrup is a miniature world map built of stones and grass in Klejtrup Sø near the village of Klejtrup, Viborg Municipality, Denmark.

In 1943, Søren Poulsen, the creator of the World Map, was working on the drainage of the surrounding meadows. He found a stone shaped like Jutland, which inspired him to create a small world of his own. During the winter months, with the use of primitive tools, big stones were placed carefully on the ice – and when spring arrived they could easily be tilted into place, and slowly the World Map took shape.

The World Map was created between 1944 and 1969, and measures 45 metres by 90 metres (49 yards by 98 yards). One 111-kilometre (69 miles) degree of latitude corresponds to 27 centimetres (11 inches) on the map. Owing to the difficulties of spreading out our planet's globular shape, the Northern Hemisphere is marked in two places, thus ensuring a better impression of the correct distances between the countries. This plane was originally placed at Highway 3 outside Aarhus as roadsign for a nearby company. But the County complained so it had to go. But the owner was lucky for what it gave. Commercial.

He had bought it on an auction a few month earlier from a young man who won it as first price in a TV show. But he didn't know what to do with itso he was suggested to sell it on auction which he did. For 40.000 DKK.

On July 1st. 2004 it was sold on an Internet auction for 16.500 DKK, 12 seconds before the time was over. Originally it was set to 40.000 DKK .

Now it stand behind the storage facility of Storkøbenhavns Kontormøbler in Vallensbæk. It will be painted in the colour sceme of the company and placed on the roof.

The Battle of Dybbøl (Danish: Slaget ved Dybbøl; German: Erstürmung der Düppeler Schanzen) was the key battle of the Second War of Schleswig and occurred on the morning of April 18, 1864 following a siege lasting from April 7. Denmark suffered a severe defeat against the German Confederation which decided the war. Dybbøl was also a battlefield in the First War of Schleswig.

On the morning of April 18, 1864 at Dybbøl, the Prussians and Austrians moved into their positions at 02:00 am. At 10 a.m. the Prussian artillery bombardment stopped and the Prussians charged. Thirteen minutes after the charge, the Prussian infantry had already seized control of the first line of defence of the redoubts.

A total massacre of the retreating troops was avoided and the Prussian advance halted by a counterattack by the 8th Brigade, until a Prussian attack threw them back; that attack advanced about 1 km and reached Dybbøl Mill. In that counterattack the 8th Brigade lost about half their men, dead or wounded or captured. This let the remnants of 1st and 3rd Brigades escape to the pier opposite Sønderborg. At 13:30 the last resistance collapsed at the bridgehead in front of Sønderborg. After that there was an artillery duel across the Alssund.

During the battle around 3,600 Danes and 1,200 Prussians were either killed, wounded or disappeared. A Danish official army casualty list at the time said: 671 dead; 987 wounded, of which 473 were captured; 3,131 unwounded captured and/or deserters; total casualties 4,789. The 2nd and 22nd Regiments lost the most. Also, the crew of the Danish naval ship Rolf Krake suffered 1 dead, 10 wounded.

The Battle of Dybbøl was the first battle monitored by delegates of the Red Cross: Louis Appia and Charles van de Velde.

The image is showing the largest Prussian bastion Kongeskansen. 1920 the largest reunion celebration took place here. Today celebrations are still held here.

Dybbøl Mill is one of the strongest Danish national symbols.
It lies at Dybbøl Brestwork, built in 1744 and has milled grain until 1990.

During the battles at Dybbøl, 7th-18th April 1864, during the two Schleswigian Wars, the mill was shot in the gravel, but was rebuilt shortly after.

It became a symbol of Danish bravery.

Rødding High School is the world's first high school, located in Rødding in the northern part of South Jutland. It was founded in 1844 by Christian Flor (1790-1875).

From the start it was a high school education with emphasis on both education and training. After the war in 1864 came Rødding under Prussia and Askov Highschool was established just north of Kongeåen in 1865 by Ludvig Schrøder as superintendent. Ludvig Schrøder (1836-1908) was superintendent of Rødding College 1862-1864.

Christian Flor (1792-1875) was an Danish priest, politician and high school man.

He worked a lifetime for the development and maintenance of the Danish language and Danish culture in South Jutland. Through life he achieved to become a priest, politician, teacher and high school principal. He founded Rødding High School and published the newspaper Dannevirke, a local paper for the Danish minded people in southern Denmark and northern Prussia. After the danish reunion it continued until 1972 when it was taken over by the local newspaper Jydske Tidende. ]]>

Engelsborg (described Engelborg and Engelskborg) is a castle ruin from the 16th. century on the island Slotø in Nakskov Fjord primarily served as a shipyard for the Royal Danish Navy.

Slotø was purchased by King Hans of Denmark in 1508 or 1509 with the objective of using the island as a shipyard for the building of a large fleet. This happened probably because of the expectation of an impending war with the Hanseatic League because the king had allowed other nations to pass the Oresund and thus compete for trade in the Baltic Sea.

From the earliest times has been the main objective shipbuilding and the castle was also built with two large sealed arms around the slipway trend down to the beach from the circular fortress tower in a v-shape. At the end of these out in the fjord was called brad benches allowing final accomodation and equipping of new constructions and repair of ships.

The castle was of the form of a minimum two-storey tower with a moat located south of, as protection against attacks from within the country, as well as an outer moat, which went from wall to wall. The outer moat had no connection to the inlet. Engel Borg could only visited by brad benches.

Historian Arild Huitfeldt writes that there allready was built two large naval vessels called respectively "Engelen" and "Maria" but only "Engelen", which most likely built as ship without anything on Slotø and end fitted in Sønderborg in spring and summer 1510 . "Angel" was the biggest naval vessel which currently had been built in Europe, and "Engelen" was later leased to the Duke of Geldern in the Netherlands, it was used to transport the Habsburg Crown Prince later Emperor Karl 5. "Engelen" never went back to Denmark.

The castle also acted as an administrative center, as it was between 1510-1523 for Lolland Nørre hovedlen and Sønder herreder. The king stayed occasionally at the castle.

In 1534 the fortress was conquered by lübecks, along with Danish farmers who were angry about deforestation of Lolland to build ships, burned down the plant, but it remained in Danish hands after peace has been achieved.

Christian 4 used from 1624 also the slipway and the great brad bench at Engelsborg, supplemented by a number of newly built workshops and housings, as the shipyard, and approximately 10 large naval vessels was built on the island until 1633. It was then abandoned and stones from the ruins were used for repair of Nykøbing Castle. In addition, farmers in the area could retrieve rocks to their own buildings, which quickly caused to the plant ended up in the Condition when it was found in 1944.

Antvorskov was the principal Scandinavian monastery of the Roman Catholic Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, located about one kilometer south of the town of Slagelse on Zealand, Denmark.

In 1165, Valdemar the Great, who was himself an honorary Knight of St John, gave the Order land at Antvorskov. The monastery (Danish:kloster) was constructed soon thereafter, during the time of Archbishop Eskil. The mother monastery, on Rhodes, and a monastery on Cyprus were built to house pilgrims to the Holy Land. Daughter houses such as Antvorskov were to forward any profits from properties to the monastery on Rhodes. Over time, however, especially after the collapse of Crusader kingdoms in Palestine, the Order focused more on helping local people, especially those suffering from leprosy, which was not uncommon in medieval Europe.

Antvorskov served as the Scandinavian headquarters of the Order, known also as "the Hospitallers", and the prior of Antvorskov reported directly to the great officer of the Order in Germany, the Grand Master of the Order on Rhodes (and, later, on Malta), and the pope. As a result, Antvorskov was one of the most important monastic houses in Denmark. Before the Reformation, its prior often served as a member of the Council of State (Danish:rigsråd) as well.

In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, the monastery became one of Denmark's major landowners. Many persons nearing death and seeking to withdraw from the world into a quasi-religious life donated some or all of their goods to the monastery. Many families seeking heavenly rest for their kinsmen donated property to buy prayers in perpetuity for those deceased relatives, or to buy burial places inside the abbey church.

Æbelholt Abbey (Danish: Æbelholt Kloster) was an Augustinian monastery situated in Tjæreby, 5 km west from Hillerød.

The monastery was first established on Eskilsø Island in Roskilde Fjord in 1104. While no remains of the wooden abbey have survived, the stone abbey church there still remains, though in ruins. It was 24 meters long and had a nave, choir, and apse in the Romanesque style. The monks became "unruly" and Bishop Absalon of Roskilde, determined to obtain a new Augustinian superior, sent for his friend, William, abbot of the abbey of Sainte-Geneviève in Paris. When William arrived in 1165 with three French canons there were only six religious left at Eskilsø, two of whom were dismissed when they refused to submit to the new rule.

In 1167 the abbey moved to Æbelholt in Tjæreby, supported by a donation of land from Absalon in Tjæreby Parish and endowed with several income-producing farms, tithes from many north Zealand churches, and several mills. The monastery on Eskilsø was closed. The first church and abbey at Æbelholt were made of timber. Construction began almost immediately on a new abbey church of limestone which was completed in 1210.

Abbot William experienced considerable initial difficulties. The three French canons returned to Paris, finding conditions in Denmark too bleak. A few of the Danish canons plotted to murder him when he ordered that they eat "herbs and leaves" instead of their usual meals. The "Life of St. William" notes some of the ways in which they considered killing him, either by setting fire to a pile of straw near his bed in the dormitory, putting him in a sack and drowning him, or taking an axe to him. Eventually William's piety, fairness, wisdom, and intelligence won them and the local populace over. He was considered a saint in his own lifetime. He was highly regarded by several kings of Denmark and served as an intermediary between the pope and the Danish monarchy.

Abbot William died on 5 April 1203 at the age of 75. Miracles at his grave and in connection with his relics brought pilgrims in great numbers, and the abbey developed into the greatest Augustinian house in the north. By 1210 the list of miracles and signs recorded was so great that the Archbishop of Lund, Anders Sunesen, petitioned Pope Honorius III for his canonization. In 1219 the pope authorized several bishops to investigate the claims with an eye to making William a saint. The result was a book The Life of Abbot William which was submitted for the pope's consideration.

William was canonized in 1224. On 16 June 1238 with great ceremony William's body was translated to lie inside the high altar in the new abbey church. A small separate chapel was constructed over the his previous grave, so pilgrims could visit without disturbing the monks. In time relics of Saint William were given to Roskilde Cathedral, Lund Cathedral, the Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) and Greyfriars Church in Copenhagen, and Greyfriars Church in Roskilde.

Rottehullet (The Rathole) was the pub opposite huset in the danish TV-show Huset på Christianshavn where the male residents daily meet to drink and discuss or solve a problem.

The building has never been a pub, but the sign from the show still hangs there today and is one of the most visited locations on Christianshavn.

Huset på Christianshavn (literally: The House in Christianshavn) was a Danish TV series broadcast between 1970 and 1977. It was produced by the Nordisk Film company for the TV station DR. There were 84 episodes. In the former East Germany (GDR), 48 of the episodes have been shown.

It was about life and living in Copenhagen in the 1970th. Even though it was very popular among the viewers, politicians and social experts disliked it.

But even today it's aired regularily on danish TV and episodes sold on DVD.

Observatorium Tusculanum was an observatory Ole Rømer build in 1704 which he used until his death 1710.

After Rømers death in 1710 continued his pupil, Lauritz Th. Schiwe as professor of astronomy observations from the observatory, but he died already in the years after the plague years in 1711. Without maintenance, the Center due thereafter, and approx. 1716-17 instruments were moved to the observatory of the Round Tower, where they also went up in flames by fire in 1728 along with all the familiar notes from Observatory Tusculanum (at least three foliobind) except Triduum observation ( "The three days of observations from 20 . The Old Town in Aarhus, Denmark (Danish: Den Gamle By), is an open-air village museum consisting of 75 historical buildings collected from 20 townships in all parts of the country. In 1914 the museum opened for the first time as the world's first open-air museum of its kind and to this day it remains one of just a few top rated Danish museums outside Copenhagen serving some 3.5 million visitors pr. year.

The museum buildings are organized into a small village of chiefly half-timbered structures originally erected between 1550 and the late 1800s in various parts of the country and later moved to Aarhus during the 1900s. In all there are some 27 rooms, chambers or kitchens, 34 workshops, 10 groceries or shops, 5 historical gardens, a post office, a customs office, a school and a theatre.

The village itself is the main attraction but most buildings are open for visitors; rooms are either decorated in the original historical style or organized into larger exhibits of which there are 5 regular with varying themes. There are several groceries, diners and workshops spread throughout the village with museum staff working in the roles of typical village figures i.e. merchant, blacksmith etc. adding to the illusion of a "living" village.

The church was designed by architect Felix Dusant and listed 1732-34. Inauguration was on 6th. January 1734 by the Bishop of Zealand, Christen Worm.

To the church is Frederiksberg Older Cemetery located where a lot of Danish celebrities have found their last resting place.

Among those buried here is Adam Oehlenschläger, a Danish poet and playwright. He introduced romanticism into Danish literature.

The Assistens Cemetery (Danish: Assistens Kirkegård) is founded in 1757 (inaugurated 1760) and located in the Nørrebro section of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is sometimes called the Nørrebro Cemetery, and is a popular place for people to take a stroll, look at the old graves and monuments, and to have a picnic. A flea market operates along its walls every Saturday from May to October. The yellow walls of the cemetery, especially the one facing Nørrebrogade has in recent years become the target of many graffiti painters.

The cemetery is one of five run by Copenhagen Municipality. The other cemeteries are Vestre Cemetery, Brønshøj Cemetery, Sundby Cemetery, and Bispebjerg Cemetery.

Among the notables interred here are several African-American jazz musicians who made Copenhagen their home.

Skovshoved Petrol Station (Danish: Skovshoved Tankstation) is a historic, still-operating filling station in Skovshoved at the northern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. Fist opened in 1936, it was designed by Arne Jacobsen and is an example of the functionalist style typical of the time. It is Class A listed and was thoroughly restored in 2002. The filling station was originally comissioned by Texaco but is now operated by Uno-X.

The exterior of the building is dominated by the projecting oval canopy, colloquially known as The Mushroom (Danish: Paddehatten). It offers shade and shelter for filling motorists but, illuminated from beneath, also doubles as a sign at night.

Christian IV's Brewhouse (Danish: Christian IV's Bryghus) is a building in Copenhagen, Denmark, dating from 1608. In spite of the name under which it is known today, the building was not originally built for the pirpose of brewing beer. It is located on Slotsholmen by the harbourfront and was constructed for military purposes as a corner bastion as part of Christian IV's fortification of the city. Already eight years later, the building had lost its military significance due to the construction of the artificial island Christianshavn with its extensice system of ramparts and bastions. Upon royal order, the building was then taken into use as a brewhouse that was to supply the King's troops with beer.For this purpose the building was capped with a high shale roof with steep gables over the massive walls.

In 1632 the Brewhouse was hit by a fire. The extend of the damages is not known but the house was rebuilt in 1635-36. During the following years the Brewhouse developed into a fully equipped brewery with copper kettles, bottling and hop wessels, and cobbled floors.

The Brewhouse briefly regained its military significance under Sweden's siege of Copenhagen. One of the assault on Copenhagen took place at the Brewhouse in 1658-60. With its imposing walls and strategic location right by Christian IV's naval harbour that was located where the Royal Library Garden lies today, the building once again played an important part in the city's defence. The night between 7 and 8 May 1767, the Brewhouse was once again devastated by a fire and this sat an end to its life as a brewery. During the following years the building was rebuilt and then served as a depot both for the brewery guild, various public bodies and the Tøjhus Museum. Since then the house has been empty.]]>

Nyboder a set of houses situated close to the train station Østerport in the Østerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The buildings were built under order of king Christian the 4th in 1631.

The main reason for this step was the increasing need of housing for enlisted men of the Royal Dano-Norwegian Navy and their families. The first of a total of 20 houses were finished in 1631 on plots of land outside Copenhagen purchased by the king. In total more than 200 apartments were fitted within the 20 buildings. The buildings have changed colour a number of times since the completion in 1641, ranging from the national colours of Denmark (red and white) to the reddish yellow colour that ordane the walls today.

To this day, the buildings still house enlisted personnel of the army, air force and navy. Priority of enlisted personnel was stopped in 2006 and the apartments are now not only a tourist attraction but also seen as upscale accommodation among people living in Copenhagen.
