I don't know it this is a transient trial or permanent new feature but tonight I saw this new control in Google Maps.
The small blue slider lets you turn on the orange and blue markers in the maps without having to hover over the map with PegMan.
Very useful while seeking out PhotoSpheres and Google Inside imagery.

The instructions and key are not showing anymore. But now I can just click on PegMan and all the Streetview blue lines, the blue dots, and the orange dots show up on the map and don't fade away.

Hover on a dot or blue line and you get a preview. Click a dot or blue line to enter Street View. No pegman drag and drop required.
