I noticed just now that in the Map views (for looking at states/countries/etc), the satellite imagery is using the "old" satellite imagery, lacking all the new higher res just released. Any idea why?

We've been discussing this in the mod forum. Best guess is that anything that uses an API to access the data is getting the old data, while direct access to the GMaps interface is getting the new data. Why this might be, you would have to ask Google.
