Now accepting submissions...
VirtualGlobetrotting is now accepting submissions for Google Street View maps. You can submit a Street View map using the same process as any other map, so it's real easy to share your cool findings. Let the fun begin!

Where can you find them?
There's a link in the left navigation pane (SV) to show all Street View Maps, as well as a new Street View category and subcategories.

You can also spot a Street View map by the 'GM-SV' tag in the bottom-right corner of its thumbnail. Additionally, Live Local's Birds Eye View maps now say 'LL-BEV' to make the clear distinction.

In a week or so we're going to have another Scavenger Hunt, and this one will be for Street View maps!

Mother of all Scavenger Hunts
Speaking of which... the Mother of all Scavenger Hunts is a mere 12 hours from closing, and we have a tie for first place! mlc1us and mikeb9991 both have 89 points!

Who will pull ahead!?!?

How to add the StreetView to an old submission ? Just adding the thumb in the GM update thumb ?

No, please don't add GM-SV thumbs to old submissions. It is OK to add duplicate submissions for GM-SV maps.

I've noticed that trying to view a Street View submission in Live Maps or Yahoo using the "View in Live Local" or "View in Yahoo Maps" links does not pinpoint the correct location, but rather a spot north of it. Assuming this cannot be easily fixed, perhaps a warning can be noted somewhere near those links.

That makes sense. The sat views are all from above. BEV auto-corrects the long, lat based on the point on the ground where BEV is focussed (this is really obvious when you rotate through views in downtown NYC).

But GM-SV URL is a point in the street while what you actually SEE from the street is off in the distance. The LL and YM view will be the location the SV image was shot, not the subject of the SV image.

My theory - in street view, the orange man icon is at the bottom of the screen with the street scene overlapping the middle of the map. Therefore, the map is centered several blocks north of the icon.

I've tested a few locations side-by-side with Live maps, where the center of the google map (after closing the street view window) is the same as the center of the Live map.

Then, I looked at a google street view generated URL and found there are two sets of lat/long numbers. It appears as if one set is the icon location, while the other set is the center of the map.

Here's an example of the firetruck scene I submitted today...

Google generated street scene URL:
http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&om=1&layer=c&cbll=37.344001,-121.874064&cbp=1,202.092801698934,0.562095683617297,1&ll=37.359584,-121.872969&spn=0.030359,0.05785&z=14

The first pair of coordinates show the actual location using LL format:
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&a...0&encType=1

The second pair show Highway 101 near Watson Park, where the google map is centered:
http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&a...0&encType=1

The VGT links for LL and Yahoo on street scenes apparently use the second set of coordinates.
