A joint venture between Veidekke ASA and Selmer Skanska AS has signed a letter of intent in connection with Statoil's development of the "Snow White" field. The contract includes construction of a 2.3 km long sub-sea road tunnel from the mainland near Hammerfest to Melkøya, as well as upgrading of the existing road from Hammerfest to the tunnel entrance. The contract value is approximately NOK 200 million excluding VAT.

The construction work will probably start in March/April with an estimated construction period of 16 months.

"We will have 40 - 50 people on the job", says Veidekke's Project Manager, Mr. Oddvar Soma.

" The joint venture's offer is for a complete tunnel including technical installations. The tunnelling work will take place from two sides, both from Melkøya and from Hammerfest."
