Description: I believe this is the marine variant of the new F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. It has the fan on the back, and the vents. It can take off vertically, and it is slated to replace the AV-8B Harrier.

kjfitz's picture I'm thinking it is an F15 instead.

vs.

The trailing edge of the wing looks more like the F-15. Also the cowling around the air intakes extends more forward like the F-15s.

It is hard to tell though.

cejay123's picture Aren't they working on the F35 there at Lockheed? see all the other links, even a test rig built there.

kjfitz's picture OK, you are right. (it may be a mock-up though)

voldude123's picture hey parabellum, just fyi, this is a different map, its not reposted. this is with google maps, and it looks like its a vacant lot next to the parking lot. no need to reference. plus this one has way more information then just Joint Strike fighter Prototype? kjfitz already put the link to live local up, so its a much more put together profile as well.
Analogman @ 2006-05-06 17:16:36
Analogman's picture Nope, not an F-15. Definitely an F-35 V/STOL variant.

LoneStarOne @ 2007-05-10 12:12:25
LoneStarOne's picture That's not the F-35 or the F-15, I believe it's the JAST (Joint Advanced Strike Technology) ground test article that was used to develop vertical take off lift fan technologies that ultimately ended up in the Joint Strike Fighter/F-35. It never was meant to fly, the test article was suspended from a test gantry to study engine behavior in vertical flight.
