Portsmouth Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral of Portsmouth, United Kingdom. It is a mixture of elements from the 12th, 17th and 20th centuries. Transepts and sanctuary were parts of the medieval church built 1188-96, nave and tower were rebuilt late 17th century after damage in civil war with the cupola added in 1703. Modern nave and aisles were started in 1935 but the work was stopped in 1939 and not restarted until 1990. In 1991 the completed building, much smaller than the original plans envisaged, was consecrated in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
