Disclaimer - I work @ McChord now, but came from mostly fighter bases.

Here is what is going on - and you can see it in the links above that show both jets...

The fighters will fly into the local pattern, in preparation to land,in formation. But normally you don't land side-by-side (though I have seen it).

So, they fly in formation, and one peels off, banks around, and lines up to land.

Shortly thereafter, the second (or third or forth) does the same maneuver.

This rearranges the formation from side-to-side (more or less) to in a line.

Thus, they land one at a time and taxi off the active runway before the next one touches down...
