The MP4-5 race car is on display at the McLaren Technology Centre. It was driven to the 1989 Formula One title by France's Alain Prost. It was the seventh drivers title won by the McLaren racing team.

Prost's four wins and eleven podium (top-3) finishes gave him the title over Brazilian teammate Ayrton Senna. Senna's controversial disqualification at the Japanese Grand Prix secured Prost's third career championship.
