Gosell's picture Lockheed Quiet Star YO-3A After the vietnam war I recall reading about super-quite recon planes that flew at night at low levels.
here... I've found it on Wikipedia

Pdunn's picture Thanks for the tip. After Googling images of the YO=3A,
http://images.google.com/images?q=YO-3A&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=wi
I am convinced this is much larger than the aircraft pictured. and I believe it is jet powered.

Gosell's picture I don't think it is a YO-3A, but rather the earlier verison QT-2 shown in the upper left corner of the first photo panel on this page.

Note the way the vertical stabilizer is forward of the horizonal stabilizer; the shape of the wing, and the single seat cockpit. It's just the propeller that is either missing or too small to see.

Pdunn's picture The plane on the right is a B-66 Destroyer, I'm still not convinced what the plane on the left is.

Pdunn's picture The long-winged aircraft in this map is a Grob G-520 Strato (Egret), originally intended as a cheap alternative to the U-2. Of the six built, one flies for Australia, while four remain in service in the US, utilized by agencies like the CIA and DEA as a platform for ELINT and high-altitude radio relay, as well as atmospheric sciences.
