Description: On August 1st 1959 240 Squadron was formed at Breighton as a Thor Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) unit. In addition to these nuclear missiles, it housed number 112 Squadron equipped with Bloodhound Surface to Air Missiles (SAM).
