Name:Chopper close to the water
Description:May very well be the same helicopter as at http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/33943/, but is not in exactly the same place, and is quite neat, IMHO, since this one appears to be hovering very close to the water, given the visible effects that the choper's downdraft appears to be having on the water.

It looks to me like this could be the response to some sort of diving emergency. In the south view, a number of skiffs and what looks like a dive boat have all converged on the same spot where the helicopter is hovering in this view. Just a theory.
Pdunn @ 2007-05-30 12:45:42
I should say in an "alternate" south view. Click out a couple times and then come back in and you'll see what I mean.
Pdunn @ 2007-05-30 13:00:24

In the west view, it appears some smoke is visible in an otherwise cloudless day:

Something is definitely happening. I'm pretty much convinced that it's the same chopper in both shots, because the boats also appear to be the same. You have the same boats in at least 3 view, with the chopper in 2 of the three, (Link to the third view of the boats http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.079866~9.77294&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157292&encType=1). In a couple of the views you have additional boats arriving, or approaching fast. No idea what is happening, or how we could find it out, but it's definitely interesting.

TexasAndroid @ 2007-05-30 13:16:47
I think that's just clouds, not smoke. If you scan to the left and a little down in that view, you'll get a large cloud over the coast. So it's not a totally cloudless day.

Went looking for the chopper in the west view, and found a slightly different West view of the situation. No real new information, but it's not exactly the same view, as the position of at least one of the boats is different from the West view that Pdunn and I already linked. Including this mostly for completeness as we gather info.

Summarizing the views we have so far:

North view, from Effi, that started this all:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080148~9.770258&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157286&encType=1

My South view of the low level chopper, that is the focus of this map:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.082621~9.770394&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157288&encType=1

And two slightly different West views of whatever is happening:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.079804~9.773296&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157292&encType=1

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080747~9.774127&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157283&encType=1
Pdunn @ 2007-05-30 13:45:14
One more "alternate" west view with yet another glimpse (two people standing in one skiff and a person on the shore):

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.079919~9.774399&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157293&encType=1
TexasAndroid @ 2007-05-30 13:49:28
And an alternate North view, including the chopper once again:

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080148~9.770258&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157286&encType=1
Pdunn @ 2007-05-30 13:52:01
This is how I think the event unfolded:
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080747~9.774127&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157283&encType=1
(Texas Android's map shows the two guys in a skiff next to dive boat(possibly rescuing a swimmer in distress(?))

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.079919~9.774399&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157293&encType=1
(The skiff with the two guys races to the shore...)

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.082621~9.770394&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157288&encType=1
(Where the helicopter flies in to meet them (Texas Android's low map)
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080148~9.770258&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157286&encType=1
(... and the flies off with the injured party (Effi's helo in flight)
TexasAndroid @ 2007-05-30 13:55:23
And an East view. At first I thought this view was unrelated, with only the largest boat present, but looking closer in the glare in the water, I'm pretty sure that most of the boats from the other views are still there, just lost in the glare.

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.080669~9.769606&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157281&encType=1
Pdunn @ 2007-05-30 13:59:31
Adding credence to the possibility that we are seeing an emergency unfold is this shot of two boats racing to the scene as the helicopter is in its low hover (Both boats can be seen reaching the seen in TA's alternate "North View"):
http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=44.078877~9.771816&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157288&encType=1
TexasAndroid @ 2007-05-30 14:14:30
Link testing. My alternate north view is actually showing the same view as Effi's view, but there is a distinctly different North view with the copper, so link testing:

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=rbcxdhhtdtj4&style=o&lvl=2&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=12157295&encType=1
