Description: The canal leads off of the river but looks to be very old given the state of roads that cross it.

Below the canal is a very large sand octagon with tall berms for wals and other nested walls.

Anonymous's picture That "very large sand octagon," as you call it, is called Husn al-Qadisiyah. It is an archaeological site in Iraq. It is an Abbasid Dynasty walled fort, octagonal in plan and 1500 meters in diameter, built in the second half of the 8th century AD.
