This is the former home of the late Beatle which his estate recently sold for $8 million, setting a new record for Hamilton Island property, according to reports. The sprawling South Pacific-style compound had fallen into disrepair in the years since his 2001 death, with its abundant tropical foliage obscuring much of the property. He and wife Olivia developed the site in the late 1980s, becoming the island's most famous home owners at the height of its popularity as an exclusive resort.

Their design incorporated thatched roofs, timber finishes and a rambling garden with sweeping water views.
