Either one of those really could be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Rose_Island>Rose Island. The first one looks like it's not far out enough, but it is the right size, and the second one looks like it is mostly occupied by a huge satellite dish, which wouldn't make sense. On the other hand, the WP article says Rose Island was destroyed, but it doesn't really say if that meant the whole platform was destroyed, or just the buildings on it. But the blurb at http://www.buckyogi.com/footnotes/natpr.htm#roses>Footnotes to History state that Rose Island (or Island or the Roses) was completely destroyed. So of course, if that is true, then this cannot possibly be it. |

Doranchak's CNR research platform is what is seen in scotchpenicillin's map URL. (Just look for the long mast.) So *this* map is of something else. |

It actually does look like Rose Island but Rose Island was blown un in the late 1960s. I don't think the images are quite that old. :) |
