His father is Cortright Wetherill, a stockbroker with the Philadelphia firm of Janney Montgomery Scott who retired to found Happy Hill Farm. His most famous horse was Raise A Native who produced over 70 stakes winners.

His brother, Corthright Wetherill Jr., an investor and car dealership owner, also has a home in Wellington.
