The large, C-shaped area at center is the former Long Beach Naval Station. It was closed in Sept. 1994, most of the buildings leveled, and turned into a container shipping terminal for the Chinese state-run China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO). This base was the location for most of the major units of the U.S. Pacific fleet in the years leading up to WWII. |
