darkhorse219's picture This is actually the last remaining runway from the old Great Southwest Airport. This was Fort Worth's airport to counter Love Field before DFW was built. I remember that Airport Freeway run under this runway in a tunnel. They rebuilt this area about 10-15 years ago and the runway south of Airport Freeway is now Amon Carter Blvd.

straybytes's picture Ah...the tunnel on Airport Freeway. I remember it well. On bright sunny days there would be a stream of cars entering the tunnel with drivers ALL blind in the sudden darkness with their sunglasses on. Then emerging from the tunnel into the sunlight, Blinded again, and searching the car for the sunglasses that they threw off in the tunnel. All at 65+ MPH. What a hazard to public safety that tunnel was.

LoneStarOne's picture I'd heard that there is a service tunnel that ran underneath the runway that now is used by AMR headquarters employees to exercise and take walks during lunch breaks.
