This is the Redding, CT home of Aaron Charney and Benjamin Hanani. Aaron Charney is a lawyer who specializes in M&A.
Aaron Charney made national headlines when he sued his employer, the white-shoe law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell, where he alleged anti-gay discrimination and retaliation, among the complaints. He sued in January of 2007 and two days after he filed his lawsuit, he had his BlackBerry disconnected, and was placed on paid leave, and two weeks before he would be served with a countersuit and fired. "Charney sued S&C by himself, while still employed by, and collecting a paycheck from, the firm. His allegations were shocking and salacious. Charney claimed that an executive partner of the firm handed him a document and said, 'I just took a shit while reading this, and some might still be on there for you.'" He subsequently settled nine months later for an undisclosed, but a rumored $15 million. After he was fired from Sullivan & Cromwell, he was hired by the law firm of Clifford Chance in New York.
The case was Charney v. Sullivan & Cromwell, No. 100625/07.
After his multi-million dollar settlement, Mr. Charney and Benjamin Hanani purchased a condo in the UPPER West Side of Manhattan for $1.495 million, in the same building where the former secretary of state Colin Powell owns an apartment. The listing broker on the deal was Halstead’s Louise Phillips Forbes. Aaron Charney and his partner Benjamin (Ben) Hanani then sold their 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, single residential condo unit in the Upper West Side, located at 220 West 93rd St, PHB in Manhattan, NY 10025 on June 15, 2010 to Barbara Adler of 2109 Broadway New York, NY 10023 for $1,699,000, according to property records. Lisa Verdi, of Sotheby’s International Realty, was the listing agent.
Mr. Charney purchased this estate in Redding, Connecticut on 9/28/2009 for $2,000,000. The property has a tennis court, a pool and hot tub, and a golf course with 4 holes. The golf course is present in the Bing BEV images, which was taken before Mr. Charney and Mr. Hanani's ownership began, but in aerial photos of the property it appears that the bunkers, or hazards, have been filled in and grass has been planted instead. The custom contemporary home has 4,068 square feet, plus an addition 1,445 square feet from the finished basement for a total of 5,213 square feet living space. There are 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, and 2 half bathrooms. The property has a current appraised value of $3,437,500, according to property records.
