The English actor and theatre director, Alan Rickman lived here before his recent passing. He is best known for his film performances as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies. Born to a working class family in London, the aspiring actor found his calling in primary school. He would go on to perfect is craft in university. Rickman was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

But Rickman may be best known for his film performances as Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.

Active from 1974 to his death in 2016, Rickman enjoyed a long and accomplished career. Known for his brooding, and commanding voice, Rickman was one of the most emotionally gripping actors of his time. Rickman has earned an Emmy, a SAG Award, a Golden Globe, and a Bafta Award. He married his first love and they stayed together until his death. They had no children. Tragically, he was taken well before his time by pancreatic cancer.
