Andrew Hauptman is an entrepreneur, film producer, and philanthropist. His wife Ellen is a daughter of billionaire Charles Bronfman, one of Canada's richest men. The couple's global holding company is called Andell Holdings. Hauptman produced the film "State of Play" and also owns the Chicago Fire Soccer Club.

When building their 20,000 sq. ft. Bel Air estate, the minimalism-admiring couple hired famed British designer John Pawson to take control. The house was featured in the September 2011 issue of Architectural Digest.

The couple also own the smaller house next door.

In September 2017, it was reported that the couple put the compound with both houses on sale for $125 million.
