Area Veterans Memorial

Area Veterans Memorial

Chisholm, Minnesota (MN), US
The Area Veterans Memorial is readily visible to Ironworld visitors as they approach the museum entrance along Highway 169. The exhibit honors individuals who served in the seven uniformed services: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and US Public Health Service. Those who served in the Merchant Marine were given veteran's status in 1988, and are also honored at the memorial.

The exhibit is comprised of an M60 tank, a Huey helicopter, and an F-94C fighter jet to remind us of the sacrifices made by men and women from the Iron Range in past military conflicts. These massive tools of war also underscore the importance of iron ore to U.S. military might during the 20th century. The Iron Range, both on the battlefield and the home front, has been a crucial contributor to American military success.
