Attu Island

Attu Station, Alaska (AK), US
There is a long WW-2 history at Attu Island, in the Aleutian Island chain, in Alaska, and native inhabitants as early as 600 B.C. But today Attu is the home for 24 US Coast Guard troops who man a Loran Station that provides an essential navigational tool for mariners of the north pacific. Originally located elsewhere on the island, the station was relocated in 1960 to Casco Cove, near the former Navy Base at Massacre Bay.
