The foundation sold the house to Sergey Grishin, who bought it out of bankruptcy, for $15.3 million.

Grishin sold Val Verde to neighbour Peter Muller, a quantitative trader who once worked at Morgan Stanley, for $14.8 million.

Henry Dater, coffee broker and land speculator, commissioned the architect Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue to design this house. He never lived in it.

The estate's first real owner was Wright Ludington, who sold it to Warren Russell Austin, physician to the Duchess of Windsor and then to Ludington.
