Barbra Streisand is an American singer, songwriter, actress, and filmmaker. In her career, she has become an icon in multiple fields of entertainment, winning numerous awards, which has earned her recognition as Mother of All Contemporary Pop Divas or Queen of The Divas. She is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and the best-selling female artist among the top-selling artists recognized by the RIAA, the only female in the top ten overall. Her music has sold more than 72 million albums in the United States and over 245 million records sold worldwide.

Her start came as a young child, being known around her neighborhood for having a good voice. When she attended school at Public School 89 in Brooklyn, she began to watch more television and going to movies which lead to her hopes of some day becoming an actress. By the time she was thirteen, her mother began supporting her talent, helping her make a four-song demo tape, including "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart," and "You'll Never Know," but Barbra's attention was still on becoming an actress. At sixteen, she rented a small flat on 48th street, in the heart of the theater district, and accepted any job she could involving the stage. Even while supporting Barbra's talent, her mother did not want her in show business, which pushed her even harder to keep trying and prove her mother wrong.

Her big break came in 1960, where she became the opening act for comedian Phyllis Diller, and realized that she could still become an actress by first gaining recognition as a singer. At the Bon Soir nightclub, she was able to fine-tune her craft, singing with a dramatic voice or a lighthearted, and playful one. Between songs, she talked to the audience, and her ability to charm an audience with humor became more sophisticated and professional.

By 20, she accepted her first role on the New York stage in Another Evening with Harry Stoones, but the show was a flop and closed quickly. With the help of her new personal manager, Martin Erlichman, she then was able to put together successful shows in Detroit and St. Louis. He then booked her at an even more upscale nightclub in Manhattan, the Blue Angel, where she became an even bigger hit during the period of 1961 to 1962. Her next show, I Can Get It for You Wholesale, received rave reviews, and earned Striesand her first Tony nomination. She was soon Broadway's most exciting and youngest new star.

It was at this time she began appearing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, appearing over half a dozen times. She also appeared multiple times on the Ed Sullivan Show, became a cohost on the Mike Douglas Show, and made an impact on a number of Bob Hope specials.

Her first album, The Barbra Streisand Album in early 1963, made the top 10 on the Billboard chart and won three Grammy Awards.

Streisand married actor James Brolin, her second husband in 1998, and while they have no children together, Brolin has two children from his first marriage, including actor Josh Brolin, and one child from his second marriage. Together, Barbara Streisand and James Brolin have an estimated net worth of $500 million dollars.
