One of the largest refineries in the northeast, with a capacity of 250,000 barrels per day. Has the world's largest catalytic cracker, with a feed rate of five million gallons per day. The Tosco Company, of Stamford, CT, bought the refinery from Exxon in 1993, and in 2001, Tosco was bought by Phillips. This is the northernmost refinery on the East Coast.

John D. Rockefeller built the Bayway Refinery in 1907. Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey (ESSO).
