Hidden along the Caribbean coast is one of the most spectacular Bioluminescent Bays in the world. The mysterious blue-green light is created by micro-organisms which thrive in an environment uniquely suited to their needs. A trip into the bay on a balmy night is a magical experience. Fish flash by in dark water, and a swim is like floating through stardust.

This unique bay contains up to 720,000 single-celled bioluminescent dinoflagellates per gallon of water. These half-plant, half-animal organisms emit a flash of bluish light when agitated at night. The high concentration of these creatures (Pyrodimium bahamense) can create enough light to read a book from.

The most AMAZING thing I have ever seen in my life. Unfortunately most cameras cannot even capture what you will see here. I had no idea anything of the sort even existed in this world. Go now before they phase the swimming out. How to explain...a , "for instance"...dip your hair in the water...it looks like diamonds are falling out of your hair on the surface, lol. No joke. No tricks...just amazing. It rained the night they took us out on a glass bottomed boat. Every raindrop that hit the water was like somebody dropping a glowstick in the water....large fish swimming underneath the boat produced an unreal luminosity...enough to read by. (seriously). I saw the best first (unfortunately, lol). Now in search of other sites...

Oh yeah...and if you like "adventure". This island is it. Only way there is a 4 hour ride on a VERY uncomfortable bumpy wooden seat boat ride...OR...4 seat plane, landing on a dirt runway (which I opted for). 50 dollars for the flight...25 max pounds in luggage. From there you will go through "The Jungle" I guess you would call it, at least it sure looks like a jungle, lol...very bumpy ride in a jeep. Almost tame horses run free on the island...my girlfriend the equestrian, lol, had fun...night after night grabbing/jumping/riding, many different horses that passed through "town" (which consists of about four buildings, lol). Island "was" a military base in the 40's 50's...(Which is why the island is untouched, seriously a place that got lost in time, and was forgotten...till recently). We also rented jeeps and went into the "mine" fields and bunkers off roading on a not so sunny day...many many hidden private beaches with crystal clear blue water as well...we almost bought a piece of property while we were there. Its THAT good :) And one last thing...you can also island hop for 50 a flight all the way to St Thomas I believe it was from Vieques...just go while the good things are still there ;)
