RAF air base 1942-46, until 1960 important centre of charter and cargo operators and since then general aviation use. US Navy also had a liaison unit (FASRON 200) based here 1955-60. The field has also been used for airshows and concerts (something like that seemed to be going on when satellite picture was taken).
