One of only four billionaires in the state of Tennessee lives here. According to Forbes, the Kentucky native founded Commonwealth Brands tobacco company in 1990, which manufactured discounted cigarettes USA Gold, Bull Durham and Malibu. He undersold top names with low advertising costs and in 2001 sold the company for $1B. He also owns 71% of the Kentucky Downs racetrack and holds a minor stake in Churchill Downs, the venue of the Kentucky Derby. He owns 1.2 million acres of real estate in Texas, Florida, and New Mexico and runs a wildlife conservationist program to help zoos breed "hoofstock."
