The building housing Brand Library in Glendale, CA was originally the home of early 20th century millionaire Leslie Brand. Named El Miradero, the home was built in 1904. Brand maintained the estate himself, using a horse-drawn mower to keep the grass in control, and flew his biplane right from his front yard. The city received the house after the death of Brand's wife in 1945.
