This was also the house of the former financier and philanthropist Howard F. Ahmanson Sr. who died in 1968.
Ahmanson was founder of an insurance and savings and loan association, H.F. Ahmanson & Co..
Ahmanson made his fortune during the Great Depression selling fire insurance for property under foreclosure and in the post-war home construction and real estate boom around Los Angeles.
