In 1972, he began an apprenticeship at Albion, earning £5 per week in his first year. In his second year of apprenticeship, he made his reserve team debut against Everson. In 1974, he signed his first professional contract, earning £28 per week. At the age of 18, he made his first-team debut in a win over York City. He scored his first goal in his second game. Robson struggled with injuries and finding a permanent role at Albion until manager Ron Atkinson took over the team. Atkinson left to manage Manchester United in 1981 and Robson asked for a transfer to join his manager there. He was transferred to Manchester United for a then-record £1.5 million.

Bryan Robson played 14 seasons for Manchester United and retired as a played shortly after his 40th birthday. He was awarded the OBE in 1990 and was an inaugural inductee into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2002.
