On 1 December 1992 two McChord based aircraft flying a nighttime air refueling mission collided over Montana, both planes crashed killing all 13 crew members.

I walk by this memorial every day, and should have some pictures up this week. It's a very nice scale model of a C-141. The 141's had a very "old pick-up truck" feel to them compared to the C-17 that replaced them. Near the end of their life, most longer trips required an FCC (flying crew chief) mechanic to make sure we didn't break down someplace. The memorial is a daily reminder that in flying, when things go wrong they often end very very badly, and that "situational awareness" will save your a**.

I was a Security Policeman stationed at Malmstrom AFB MT. I responded to that crash.
