Cairo Apartment Building

Cairo Apartment Building

Washington, Washington, DC (DC), US
From www.culturaltourismdc.org:

Designed by architect T. Franklin Schneider, this Sullivanesque-styled building was among the city's largest early apartment buildings. It was built as the tallest privately owned stucture (160 feet), and the significant outrage over its construction led to adoption of Washington, DC's building height limit.

Built in 1894, the building was remodeled 1973-76 and eventually converted to condominiums in 1979. It was placed on the DC Register in 1990 and on the National Register in 1994.
