I'm guessing you were stationed in Naples. No one else would know about Carney park. |

You wouldn't even recognize the place any more. Carney park is still open but all of the other facilities are gone. Completely new everything has been built at two new sites, one at the airport and another north of town. |

Wasn't there an outdoor movie theater in Carney Park at one time? |

I lived alternately in Parco Azzurro from 76-80! Dan Limbaugh here for anyone who stumbles on this! Carney was awesome. After a full day away from parents sliding down the pipes, climbing up to dead man's, and swimming, we'd watch both movies before heading home for a few hours of sleep before doing it all over again! Awesome childhood! Life without TV, video games, etc was actually a good time kids! |

Man...those were the days. My family was lucky because my father served in Naples TWICE...'77 to '80 and '83 to 90. I was born in '74, so I basically GREW UP there. With all the changes that have taken place in Naples since we left, it's great to see that Carney Park is still laid out basically the SAME way it was 20 and even 30 years ago. Even though we had access to arcades, Atari,Commodore computers and SEB-TV by the mid-80s, I still think growing up there made us far more industrious than our state-side peers. There were so many OTHER things for us to do. What's really crazy is that because I spent most of my childhood overseas, I thought EVERY kid lived like that. Coming back to the States permanently was a shock that I STILL haven't recovered from half a lifetime later. Hoping to go back and teach at the new NAHS and give my own a kids a small taste of what I had. |

I too was a Navy Brat...grew up in Arco Felice '72-'74....was some of the best times of my life and yes there was an outdoor theatre located up front by the enterance...Oh how I miss those simpler days where all I cared about was exploring the rim around Carney Park and playing basketball. Look the special services for letting me and my sibling check out the various equipment they had ( aka basketballs, bats. mits etc.) If anyone i know stumbles across this my name is John mitchell. |

Reading these comments brings back memories. We were in Parco Azzurro from 75-79- lived on Via Drago. Dan Limbaugh's comments are dead-on. No TV, just playing Guard the Wall at the parco pool, playing baseball at Carney park, no TV, skateboarding down the hill.... it's all coming flooding back. My name's John Kinsley, graduated h.s. in '88 to give some perspective. |

I lived in Arco Felice from '69 to '73. Our school bus stop was at the Piazza (a rubbish dump), spent endless summers climbing on the crater and taking the train into AFSOUTH for the double feature and bowling league at AFSOUTH on Saturday mornings. Boy Scout camporees at Carney Park and playing under the bleachers during the football games. No TV, just dozens of friends playing chase and tag in the streets and across the vineyards until early evening. Some of my favorite memories. |

I too have fond memories of Carney Park. Ben Zaslow here - lived in Licola Mare from 1975 to 1979. Forrest Sherman class of 1977. Worked during the summers as the NSA Photo lab, and on the LST craft which cruised the bay of Naples resupplying the sixth fleet (mostly the carriers). My Dad was the Science Advisor. Great times...skipping school and catching the aliscafi to Capri...what a life! |

Hi everybody! Derek Hightower here. 1974-1978. My parents ran the teen club for a couple of years. Naples was the best place to be as a kid. No tv or video games but I don`t ever remember being bored. Lived in Parco Palumbo and there were always friend to do things with from daylight to dark. Carney Park was my favorite place as a kid. I`m always showing Carney Park on google earth to my friends and new family members. This website shows it better though. Hope to hear from some old friends. I`m on classmates.com. |

I remember Mr. & Mrs. Hightower! I lived in Parco Azzurro from 1974-1977 and spent nearly every weekend night at the teen club. Your parents were WONDERFUL to us by the way. :o) |

I have wonderful memories of Carney Park from 1967-68. Robert Couey here- I spent many hours digging up the old WWII ammunition that had been detonated there after the war. I still have my collection of old relic finds! I lived off Via Tasso right down the hill from the back of the elementary school. Sometimes I would run through the vineyard as a short cut to my house and get chased by the Count's guard dogs. What a great life and thanks dad (rest his soul) for giving me the best life as a kid abroad. I'm taking my wife and son over this in June to give them the opportunity to experience it too. I wonder if Mrs. Massa or Mrs. Federico, my 5th grade teachers are still over there. |

Was on the Drill Team and still have the uniform:@) We also went to drive-in movies there. Our family lived on Via Manzoni so I walked to FSHS and back everyday. Then school started late, like 10 a.m. and got home at 4. Nothing but good memories and traveling the country with the teams!! |

Wow! Derek Hightower from Parco Palumbo? Is this the same guy we used to call the Evil Knievel of the Parco? We would build crappy makeshift ramps and jump over stuff with our banana seat bikes on the dirt mounds. I remember you taking it to a new level by strapping on a helmet and jumping over 1-3 trashcans on the STREET with your bicycle. Other fond Parco Palumbo memories; Stealing the farmers boats, playing at the ruins, fishing with bread and cheese in Lago Di Patria (those weird eels), shooting rats with a pump bb gun at the dump, Estes rockets, Rin-Tin-Tin Gum, rock fights, haunted houses, jar of Nutella with a loaf of real Italian bread, comic book sales, chasing the dog catcher(killer) out of the Parco. GREAT TIMES!! Jeff Latham, Army Brat Naples 72-75. |

Carney Park is one of the greatest secrets in Naples. Although the word is out now that local hires are allowed use of the park. Since the NAVY moved everything north, the park gets very little use. Lucky for me I live very close (Lucrino) and visit a couple days a week to let the dogs run. |

I was homeported in naples from 69-71 and played at carney park three or four times a week when the ship was in port. It was the only place where enlisted and officers co-mingled. I bought a ping putter there from the pro shop and still have it. It is a collector's item and have had many offers to buy it, but i won't let it go! |

My name is Cliff I was there as a child from like 1976 to 1980ish. Lived in tower #6 coppola pinetamare. Loved living there. some of the best years of my life, I joined the navy and was able to visit again in 1987. Would live there today if it was possible. I remember the drive in theatre and there was a skateboard park there also. Used to get in trouble sliding back down the hillside where some water pipes or some kind of pipes went up the mountainside. Dont forget the Montacery thats on top the hill too. |
