Castel Nuovo

Castel Nuovo

Naples, Italy (IT)
The castle is called Maschio Angioino because it has Angevin origins (1279-82), but it was completely rebuilt under Alfonso I of Aragon in the 15th century by Catalan and Tuscan masters. It is a solid trapezoidal mass reinforced at the corners by sturdy cylindrical towers topped with merlons. On its main facade, the marble triumphal arch provides a monumental entrance to the castle.
