Closed and awaiting destruction! Sometime in the not-so-distant future, this map will have to be dumped to the No Longer Exists and/or Demolished category. It almost doesn't even exist now!
Opened in 1988 primarily to be the home of the NBA expansion team Charlotte Hornets. Through the years, "The Hive" was also the home to the Charlotte Sting of the WNBA as well as a couple arena football teams. NCAA basketball had their Final Four here in 1994. It was once a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose arena also hosting countless concerts . . . but in the end it was considered a relic. The Hornets once led the NBA in attendance but before their departure for New Orleans in 2002, they had the lowest NBA attendance. Soon another expansion team was awarded to Charlotte and although they played their first season here, they had decided to build a brand new arena more suited for the 21st Century.
