Chokushi-Mon (Gateway of the Imperial Messenger)

Chokushi-Mon (Gateway of the Imperial Messenger) (StreetView)
Chokushi-Mon, or Gateway of the Imperial Messenger, is an 80% scale model of the original located in Kyoto, Japan. It is to be found in the Japanese area of Kew Gardens close to the enormous pagoda. The replica gateway was built for an Anglo-Japanese exhibition held in London in 1910. After the exhibition closed the gateway was dismantled and moved to its current location in Kew. Major renovation work was undertaken in 1994-5 with the Japanese landscape, that surrounds it, being opened in 1996.
