Cornell lived here in Seattle before passing in 2017. A hugely influential singer and rhythm guitarist, Cornell also played in Audioslave and Temple of the Dog. Known for his distinct and nearly four-octave vocal range and his powerful vocal belting technique, Cornell is forever known as a lord of the grunge rock movement.

Cornell received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his song "The Keeper", which appeared in the 2011 film Machine Gun Preacher, and co-wrote and performed the theme song to the James Bond film Casino Royale

At the end of his life the Cornell had a net worth of $60 million. Across his entire catalog, Cornell has sold 14.8 million albums, 8.8 million digital songs, and 300 million on-demand audio streams in the U.S. alone as well as over 30 million records worldwide. He was nominated for 16 Grammy Awards and won three. He was voted "Rock's Greatest Singer" by readers of Guitar World, 9th in the list of "Best Lead Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and 12th in MTV's "22 Greatest Voices in Music".

Cornell struggled with depression and was found dead in his Detroit hotel room early on May 18, 2017, after performing at a Soundgarden concert an hour earlier at the Fox Theatre. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging. But the singer will not be forgotten. There is even a statue of him installed outside the Museum of Pop Culture on the Seattle Center grounds, in the U.S. state of Washington. The life size statue shows him playing a guitar, and will immortalize the singer, as his work does.
